DaisyGirl55 Posted May 11, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2009 I have a question regarding tipping when on a short cruise... We are considering for our next weekend cruise to just eat in the WJ every night and not even worry about dressing for dinner. We usually only carry-on our stuff for these quickie cruises, so this will make it even easier. My question is this: we still feel that it is the right and correct thing to tip as if we ate in the MDR each night (waiter, assistant waiter, and maitre d), and we usually have the tips added to our on-board account. Do we still take the vouchers and bring them to the dining room on the last night? And if so, would it be okay to just leave the envelopes with the maitre d? Just not sure how to tip in this circumstance, but we would never think of not doing so as we see the wait staff all over the ship, including the WJ - and we know how hard they work. Suggestions? Au48 Posted May 11, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2009 Your tips will be automatically posted to your onboard account ($10 per person, per day) regardless of where you eat. If you would like to tip additional, or to tip the Maitre'D, just run by the MDR the last night with an envelope, and that should be fine.
yogi2929 Posted May 11, 2009 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2009 Just inform the Maitre D' that you will not be eating in the DR to free up your seats. If you want to tip him that is up to you. Carnival does not give vouchers for Autotips, but they do put up a list of who takes them off.

The waiter in the dining room at dinner will also be the waiter at breakfast in the dining room or up at the buffet so they do earn their tips (in my opinion). firefly333 Posted May 11, 2009 #5 Share Posted May 11, 2009 The $10 per day doesnt even include the maitre d', they will give you a special envelope for him. So unless you tip him over and above the $10 per day, he wouldnt receive anything from you, you dont need to worry about it. Your waiter works shifts in the buffet and elsewhere. The buffet tables still need to be cleared, dishes need to be washed.
