Clarification needed on Non-smoking louges

Recommended Posts

I have read here from other passengers that HAL has recently designated some lounges, (Oceans Bar?) as completely non-smoking. However the HAL website only says the following:

Smoking

For the comfort of all of our guests, designated smoking and nonsmoking areas are available in most lounges. Smoking is not permitted at any time in dining areas. Our ships do not have "nonsmoking" staterooms; however, all rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each cruise to assure the comfort of our guests. All showrooms are nonsmoking during performances.

Can anyone provide definitive information as to which lounges, or other public areas, besides the Dining Room and Theater, are completely non-smoking?

It appears to be changing on a ship to ship basis. On our trip on the Ryndam 4/14 we got a questionaire about whether we would continue to cruise if smoking were prohibited. Looks like HAL is putting a survey together to determine the impact on their business if they stopped all smoking.

It is a recent change and apparently the web site has not been updated.

Fleetwide, there is no smoking permitted in Ocean Bar.

No smoking in Explorations Cafe, Show Lounge, any dining area. Explorer's Lounge, Piano Bar and on Eurodam no smoking in Crows Nest. (This MAY be so on other ships but I'm not sure which, if any.)

They have been distributing that questionairre for about 2 years now. Presumably at some point, it will be used to make further restrictions re: smoking. It probably contributed to changing Ocean Bar to totally non-smoking.
