Forfun Posted May 4, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2004 Hi! We are sailing on the Jewel in February and will be going down (we're from Michigan) a day early to Fort Lauderdale. Does anyone have any suggestions for hotels? I've looked around abit but all I've managed to do so far is confuse myself. Any help would be greatly apprciated! Many thanks. 42trvl Posted May 4, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 4, 2004 We just got back from a cruise from Ft. Lauderdale. Stayed at the Renaissance. VERY convenient. Close to aiport and very close to port - they have a shuttle for $3/person to the port. Fairly new, comfortable rooms. Nothing fancy of the resort nature, but for a night pre or post cruise is fine. goodml Posted May 4, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 4, 2004 You can get a great deal of information from the 'Hotels' board on this website. Look for it on the page where you choose from the list of message boards. It's probably two thirds of the way down the page. We flew down from Detroit on Spirit Air last year and got the FL Mariott Marina for $49 on Priceline. For the best deals in Fort Lauderdale it's the only way to go. For all the information on how to use Priceline go to www.betterbidding.com or www.biddingfortravel.com If you spend an evening carefully reading those boards you'll know how to get a great deal. superjerryw Posted May 4, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 4, 2004 We used Priceline last time and got the Doubletree on Fort Lauderdale beach for $45. On other trips we have booked at the Comfort Inn on Sterling Road. They have a free shuttle from the airport and a free shuttle to the pier. trabucocruiser Posted May 4, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 4, 2004 We spent the night at the Embassy Suites before our 4/11 VOS cruise and found it to be worth the price.
Forfun Posted May 4, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted May 4, 2004 Hey Thanks everybody-- I must lead a sheltered life! Didn't know the hotel board even existed! I've never used priceline before--a little nervous about doing it but I will certainly check it out. Lila
Family of 14 Posted May 4, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 4, 2004 We stayed at the Renaissance at the port and loved it! Very, very nice rooms. We got it on Priceline and I believe it is the only 4 * it that area. The neat thing about the hotel is that it is near the Water Taxi system in Ft L. Within walking distance, you can buy a ticket for $5 that gives you unlimited use of the taxi to all places on/off the intercoastal water way. The drivers even give you a guided tour off the Rich & Famous homes. There are some beautiful homes! Carver32 Posted May 4, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 4, 2004 forfun: We will be sailing the Jewel on Jan 29/8nighter. We will also be going down a day early. I will get a room through Priceline maybe 2 months or so b4 we leave. It's too early now to bid for Jan. We use PLine every year for our pre-cruise and after-cruise stays. 2 years ago in FLL we got the Embassy Suites for about $70. We have never had a bad experience through Pline. Last year got the Radisson/Miami for $40. It was great. Have a great cruise and enjoy the Jewel. BK

want2seaitall Posted May 4, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 4, 2004 Hyatt Pier 66...4 star...bid through priceline at got it for $80/night...it is the only 4 star that priceline deals with in the Fort Lauderdale beach area...I've heard people getting it for even less than that...but I went during a popular kids vacation week.
