checking luggage in at the pier....

We will be flying into Vancouver arriving at 12:00 Noon, about 3 hours before embarcation for our Alaska cruise, at 3:00. Is it possible to cab to the pier and check in with our luggage at SS, and then go to a nearby restaurant for lunch, to wait until 3:00 to officially board the ship? I know we can buy early embarcation, but it hardly seems worth the $200 just to board 3 hours early.

If any of you have any info about this, I would appreciate it. I am assuming there are restaurants not far - hopefully in short walking distance - from the pier where we can have lunch.

Thanks for your suggestions,

Glenda

Actaully the $ 200 includes a gourmet lunch with wine so, depending on what you might spend at lunch, the cost may be a bit more reasonable. We have sailed three times on Silversea, always opting for early embarkation, and have been delighted to have that extra time to settle in before the ship fills up. It's also an excellent opportunity to make spa and dinner reservations (at La Terraza and Champagne).

Early embark. is worth it. Give it a try. We have early embark. this year for our Shadow cruise. We tried last year, but all the slots were filled. SS only allows a certain # of passengers for early embark., so if you decide, get your request in ASAP.

South Seas Sue: I have done exactly what you want to do, in Sydney.

I think it was around 1:00 we put the bags on, and then spent 2+ hours seeing the sights etc. Perfect.

Had we been on board on early embarcation, we would've simply got off to do the same thing.
