wf083145 Posted May 23, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 23, 2009 We are cruising from Rome in September but are unsure how to get to the port from our hotel in Rome. RCCL's pre-cruise hotels are at least twice as much as we would pay for the same or better but they do include the transfer from the hotel to the ship. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get to the port independently or if RCCL sells the transfer from one of their package hotels if you don't get the entire package from them? wripro Posted May 23, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 23, 2009 Sorry to be negative but this must be at least the 5000th time this question has been asked. A simple search will bring MOUNTAINS of informatIon, suggestions and recommendations. It's very easy to do. I hope you enjoy your cruise!

Help Cruise line transfers (without accomodations) are only available from the airport to the ports (and only within specific timeframes). Suggest that you seriously look at trains (thousands of Italians per day cannot be wrong!)
cruiseluv Posted May 24, 2009 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2009 Buying the hotel from the cruise line is IMO not wise. As you well said, you are paying at least double. Your options to go independently from hotel to port are : take train, arrange with a limo company (I think it is around 130 euros) or have your hotel arrange car transport. Like a previous poster said, a search in this forum will give you all the info you need.
HaileysHappyMama Posted May 24, 2009 #5 Share Posted May 24, 2009 I just booked 4 tickets on the train from Rome to the port for $86 including shipping. (they don't do e-tickets!!??)...Nonetheless, pretty cheap.
JLC@SD Posted May 24, 2009 #6 Share Posted May 24, 2009 Trains are convenient if you can manage the luggage you bring. Keep in mind you have to lug it with you. We have a trip planned in July and will fly to Rome, take the train from the airport to Central Station, a few days later take the train to Venice, cruise from Venice to Rome, take the train from the port to Central Station and then take the train from Central Station to the airport to fly home......and, of course......we will pack lightly. Judy & Lenny Posted May 26, 2009 #7 Share Posted May 26, 2009 We just returned from an 11 day cruise on Celebrity and many on cruise critic used the roll call to arrange shared rides to and from Rome hotels and the airport. Works out well when you can split the price of the limo with 6 people.
bluwes Posted May 26, 2009 #8 Share Posted May 26, 2009 Search for your ship's roll call and introduce yourself there. I am sure you will find others who will link up with you for a transfer to bring the cost down
nadalina Posted May 26, 2009 #9 Share Posted May 26, 2009 Hi, wf083145. I just went through the same research and pricing process for a cruise on the Ruby Princess next month for a family of 4 adults including one elderly gentleman. Since we will have lots of luggage, we felt the train was not a good option for us. I emailed at least 6 different transportation companies and also asked our hotel to price the transfer for us from the hotel to the port in an air-conditioned vehicle that will comfortably accommodate 4 adults and 8 pieces of luggage. Rome Shuttle, by far, came back with the best quote: 120 euros total in cash at the time of service, but not including gratuity. Here is their email address: info@rome-shuttle.com. I dealt with Elena and she was very nice and responds promptly. The next best price was from Rome Cabs for 150 euros. Hope this info helps.
