How hot in August?

I'm thinking of doing a Southern Caribbean cruise this August - Aruba, Curacao, Dominica, St. Thomas.

So here's my question:

How hot will it be? I know it will be hot, I know it will be humid. But how hot? Too hot to have fun?

I live in Southern California, so I'm used to heat (but it's a dry heat...); I guess I want to know if I'm going from the frying pan into the fire!

You'll be all right.

Temperature-numbers-wise I pretty sure it doesn't get as hot as So Cal.

I remember being in the SanFranBay area in July of 1985

-the hottest conditions I've ever been in  -a trip thru the Sonoma Valley to do the wineries...

I thought we had it hot here in the islands...HA!

Most days the islands have cooling breezes to make things bearable.

I live on Barbados which is quite a ways from the Dutch ABC islands you're visiting

so I can't exactly say what those particular islands are like..

but yes it gets pretty darned hot here on Barbados in August,

but even worse in Sept. and October, when winds speeds lower considerably

when tropical weather systems are in the region, reversing normal wind directions, etc.!

It's a "fun" time of year... (tongue in cheek)

Dominica and St.Thomas conditions/weather/wind patters are pretty much like those of Barbados...

Basically, it's all about the wind speeds! ;)

Yes, it'll be humid, salty humid but you'll live!

The novelty of being in a new place will help distract.

Look for airconditioned shops and bars and it won't be so bad.

Select air-conditioned taxis, and make sure he turns the darned thing ON.

Many tropical taxi drivers are cheapskates

and try not to us the air-con, thinking they're saving money - NOT!

Hope this helps?

  • 1 month later...

I live in the Inland Empire in So Cal. One time when returning back from my Florida cruise, when I stepped off the plane in Ontario, it was more humid here then it was on my cruise.

Yes, it is going to be VERY humid and yes its going to be VERY hot and at times the ships A/C has a problem keeping up with the people and heat but I would not trade it for a minute to go the USVI or the other places you are going. Hot and humid weather means nice warm and clear water. The beauty of it all will take away the misery of the heat. Just be prepared to take a couple showers at times in a day.
