Boston - Hotel with parking for cruise

We will be driving from Canada for a cruise out of Boston. We are not sure where to stay. We plan on staying a couple of days pre cruise to see the sights and will need a hotel that we can leave our car while away. Any names of hotels or districts we should be looking at.

 

Or is it better to have a hotel and pay for parking near the port?

Boston hotels are expensive. The hotels that offer Park/cruise are not centrally located and are not the best to tour the city from. Could you give us more details - exact hotel dates, number of people, number of beds, and budget?

 

The strategy that seems to be working best for folks right now is to get rooms on Priceline or Hotwire, which are nonrefundable. There have been some excellent deals out there for 3.5* and better hotels. The cruise parking is $14/day (it actually went down $1), but what we don't know is if that applies for just your cruise dates or the duration of your stay in Boston.

I have used Priceline for Ft Lauderdale and know which area to pick but I don't know the different areas on Priceline for Boston. I have read the areas to pick would be Boston Waterfront, or Copley Square, or Quincy Market.

 

There would be 3 adults so would need 2 double beds and it is for the end of August.

 

It might be better to have a hotel and then pay for parking at the port, do you think.

It might be. Could you provide your exact dates? With 3 people you will need to look at Hotwire. End of August should have some good deals. Let's see what is out there. You want Boston Common, Quincy Market, Waterfront, or Copley. What is your budget? I'm thinking you want to drop your bags off at the hotel and then dump the car at Black Falcon.

 

Are you willing to use public transportation? Are you good walkers? Boston is a small city and easy to get around. You don't need your car.

We are not sure of the dates we want to travel yet. Cruise is the last Friday of August. We are 58 and mother in law is 84 and is active but tires after alot of walking.

The parking is an extra fee for downtown hotels, and it is expensive. If you stay at the Sheraton, you park at the Pru Center and it is $39 per day. The Hilton gives you a discount if you stay at their hotel and park in their garage $37 per day, so you save a big $2.00:)

Thanks for the details. Boston is a walking city, but you may want to consider alternatives if you are traveling with you 84 year old mother. The end of August could be very warm, so walking all over town may not be the optimal choice. Please look at the Old Town Trolley for transportation around the city to the various tourist destinations.

 

That actually makes the hotel advice easier. The most interesting thing showing up on Hotwire for August 25-28 is a 4* Waterfront hotel for $129. This is probably the Westin or the Renaissance, but could be the Seaport. These hotels are close to the Silver Line, but not in the middle of downtown Boston. Quite frankly, at that price you could afford to spend a few dollars on modest cab fares. The trolley stops at the Westin Hotel, so that would not be an issue. There are also several restaurants in the area like the No Name and the Legal Seafoods Test Kitchen, so eating close by would not be a problem. Best of all, if you were to dump your car in the Black Falcon parking, you could walk back to the hotel.
