Welland Posted May 28, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2009 Can you go to the casino and take an 'advance' on your obc to use in the casino? Any information that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Tenngal Posted May 28, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 28, 2009 I've done that on other cruise lines. I assume you can on O as well. After all, the OBC is just a credit on your stateroom account. However it's spent is up to you.

HotRoot Posted May 29, 2009 #4 Share Posted May 29, 2009 If you look at the thread titled Seeking Advice from Oceania cruisers, #46 from newcruisers04 states "you cannot use OBC for the casino". I am assuming this is OBC received from Oceania as an incentive for you to book. If you get cash in the casino, you can just put it in your pocket. They want you to "spend" the credit on the ship. I have no idea if this is correct, just wanted to point it out.
newcruisers04 Posted May 29, 2009 #5 Share Posted May 29, 2009 that was the response I got to an email from Oceania about the on board credit...others have said they can cash out the on board credit minus the 5% service charge, but I took that agents email to mean that is no longer the case. I may have to call her and verify that point.
pondnana Posted May 30, 2009 #6 Share Posted May 30, 2009 We did the TA from Rio to Barcelona in March and had no problem taking the money from OBC our at the casino with a 5% charge. We used it where we wanted.

We used it where we wanted. Thanks everyone for your replies. Hopefully I will be able to take the money from the OBC and use it in the casino. I fully understand the 5% surcharge. If anyone else is still reading this posting and has any other relevant info to add please do so. Thanks in advance to all posters for your help. I want to use it for excursions but was told that I could not use if for pre-booked excursions. They said it could not be cashed out and it was a case of "use it or lose it." hondorner Posted May 31, 2009 #9 Share Posted May 31, 2009 That's true. Pre-booked excursions are posted to your credit card as soon as you book them. However, once you are aboard, if you find you have to cancel them, the credit is applied to your on board account. And, in this case at least, if you have excess credit on your account at the end of the cruise, and if it is the same or less than the canceled excursion amount, they will refund the amount to you in cash. The explanation I received is that the ship has no way to issue a credit to your credit card.
burm Posted May 31, 2009 #10 Share Posted May 31, 2009 . The explanation I received is that the ship has no way to issue a credit to your credit card. Riiiiiiiiiight. Yet they have no problem charging your credit card. :p

burm Posted June 1, 2009 #13 Share Posted June 1, 2009 Can you use your OBC to book excursions in advance, and if not can you book them using your OBC once on board ? When I phoned Oceania I was told than you cannot use your OBC to book excursions in advance but you can once you are on board. I plan to book the excursions that are most important to me in advance but leave a few open where I don't care quite as much.
