Tripgy Posted May 31, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2009 When we last cruised the Med we took an excursion to Rome, which was great. However not sure we want to do that again and thought we would just stay in port. Does anyone know if there is a beach close to the port - within walking distance? If not is there anything that we can do - are there shops / bars / restaurants etc?
jenny wren Posted May 31, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2009 Yes there is a beach in Civitavecchia...if you get the port shuttle to the gate the sea front starts on the right as you go out ....we didn't actually sit on it but it was a Sunday and there were quite a few locals milling around the whole sea front area. We had lovely fresh cakes with coffee just across the road from the seafront !!!
berlingo Posted June 4, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 4, 2009 To be honest we were rather unimpressed with Cittavechia when we spent some time there last year. It was rather miserable and grey weather and the town seemed to match. There was a little market and a McDonalds on the seafront which I am ashamed to say my daughter thought was great. With two children and having been to Rome we were hoping to find a reasonable beach but were disappointed. However perhaps we did not do Cittavechia justice? If you google the town there is some limited information about seaside resorts further along the coast which maybe worth a try. This year we are going to try the train into Rome ,if we are brave enough and if our youngest can be bribed into not moaning too much. Ahh... the joys of motherhood!
