Hey guys, my take on the Doey-Dont is this. Every 1980 come outs you will lose one unit (lose 28 on the pass, win 27 on the don't). Very low house edge there, but you have no chance - ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH to win ANYTHING!!! Long run or short, one comeout or 100,000. No bet will make you a cent.

It's like watching a porn movie alone instead of being with your girlfriend. No profit in it.

What you do get is a chance to play the odds, basically without the weight of the flat bet pulling you down. If that's what you want, go for it!

Shalom, Andy.

Agreed...the system is about exciting as watching your shirt dry...

I just wanted to say thanks for all the great advice on this board. I had some time after work today, so I headed out to the casino to try my luck. I am by no means a high roller, so I was a little aprehensive at first. I bought in at $100 and just made $5 pass line bets with double odds. After a few rolls, I started putting down place bets on the 6 and 8. My table ended up getting a hot roller who apparently knew what he was doing. He rolled for about 1/2 hour before he sevened out. In the end, I walked away with a profit of $178. I didn't think that was too bad for my very first time! :D

Can anyone tell me what a good bet to make for the dealers would be? I just gave them a straight tip today, but I am thinking it might be more fun for them if I made a bet. I'm just not sure what would be appropriate. Also, do I just place the bet and say "for the dealer"? Sorry, I am new to all of this, but I want to make sure I take care of the crew. :D

Some players will just put a $1 chip down next to their pass line bet to which they will respond "dealers on the line!"

Congrats on your winnings. Hope you took your turn throw'n the bones.

thanks! I did get to throw, but I screwed up by standing to the right of the stickman. I am a lefty, so throwing with my left hand to the left side of the table felt akward. Next time I will remember to stand where I can throw comfortably. :p

This thread is about tipping the dealers. They appreciate any bet you make for them. Some are better than others. If you had been a little more aggressive you could have won more $$. Did you stay with the same bets the whole time? Or did you press your bets up? I like taking my bets up in increments. A $6 6 or 8 first goes to $12, then $18, 24 and then $30, next time it rolls, set $2 and tell the dealer $42, then $60, $90, $120, $150, $210, $240, $300, $450, $600, all depends on how long the roll goes.

Or you can use your payouts to place other numbers. If you start with the 6 and 8, after they have rolled once or twice, then place the 5 and 9, then the 4 and 10. Then start to press those bets. They go $5, $10, 15, $25, $35, $50, $75, $125, $175, $250, $300, $400 etc.

Use the casino's $$ to make more $$ for YOU.

Actually, I did press my bets after the dealer asked me if I wanted to. I had to ask her what that meant. She explained exactly what you just said, that I was now playing with house money.

I agree. I just wanted to get a feel for the game. It really is intimidating when you walk up to a live table for the very first time. I think I have a much better comfort level with the various bets and the lingo. I basically just went with the bets that the dealers recommended. But I knew to steer clear of the "sucker bets". I have a craps game that I downloaded on my ipod touch and it is really helping me understand the bets and payouts better. I think I will be a bit more aggresive next time. I'm trying to talk my hubbby into going over tonight, but they usually raise the table minimums to $15 on Saturday nights and that is a little too rich for his blood!

Rather than pressing and playing with the "house money", I like to put a bit of the "house money" back in my pocket as my "vig" for next time. Remember, if you started the evening with $100 and left with $120, you made 20% on your investment as well as had a good time. Can't do that at the bank.

I see so many who will come to the table, throw down a $1,000, big show, make all kinds of crazy bets, horn bets, etc, yell a lot when they win, keep pressing, then leave with nothing. To each his own. Don't let the dealers push you to bet more if you don't have the bankroll.

Point well taken. As a newbie, I did feel a bit pressured to "press my bet" like the dealer suggested. Luckily for me, we had a hot roller and it worked out. In the future I will make sure I am completely comfortable with the bets.

Hi, I was a casino dealer for 15 years on the ships and if your betting for us then put it with your own bet (or just to the side) and let the dealer know. Then if you win, we win. ALSO ... Can I just say its people like you (with your tips) that kept people like me in a great job, with some cash, seeing parts of the world that i would have had no chance of seeing otherwise. A massive thanks is needed.

Cheers, Chris and Cheryl (ex RCCL, Celeb, P&O, and a couple more)

I always like the dealers who are from the UK or Down Under. Thanks for making my cruises more enjoyable. We've had the pleasure of meeting several on subsequent cruises and they always seem to remember us.:)

But you can cast some light on why, when the table is hot, they have to all of a sudden bring more chips and disrupt things. Of course that's probably why, to disrupt the game.

I used to be a thrower and now I'm a flipper.

The majority of the players on a cruise just throw the dice and they roll forever.

If you flip the dice and stick them to the wall you can control your throw.

I guess people call this stacking the dice, but if you just take the dice the way the stick man gives them to you and flip them, you will have control of the dice.

If you have ever been to Jai-Alai, the players try to get to ball to hit right at the floor and the back wall at the same time and that is what works for me with the dice.

Not tellin you how to play , but it makes scene to me.

You're kidding right?? It's because that's when they need them. There is only room for so many chips on a craps table, and getting a fill should not disrupt the game.

The majority of the players on a cruise just throw the dice and they roll forever. Do you mean they bounce around? Because rolling forever is a GOOD thing.

If you flip the dice and stick them to the wall you can control your throw. No you can't. You may be able to make them land where you wnat, but this does not mean they will land on a GOOD number.

I guess people call this stacking the dice, but if you just take the dice the way the stick man gives them to you and flip them, you will have control of the dice. Huh?

They have plenty of chips, they just want to disrupt the flow of the game. They can bring the chips in AFTER the shooter 7's out, not during the shooters roll. It does disrupt the game, they plop the holders down right in the middle of the table and all action stops until they count them and someone signs off the slip. Play does not continue during this BS.

As for setting the dice, I try to practice the technique talked about in one of the dice control books. I set the 3's in a V and hold them on the sides between my thumb and forefinger. Then gently toss them in a high arc attempting to get them to land in the crease between the back and the bottom felts. This is to attempt to have them rotate one time back onto the table, not bounce all over. The writer claims that in that configuration, where they rotate, there are less opportunities for a 7 to show. The shooter has to position themselves to the side of the stickman so the dice are thrown sideways towards the back rail. People swear it works, it seems to work for me more often than not.

And I have been warned by the boxman for throwing the dice in too high an arc because they don't want to take their eyes off the table to follow the dice.

I know what you mean when they bring a table fill just when things get hot. In my humble opinion ... I know that if the dealer ran out of chips when paying out there would be hek to pay. Also, i don't think it is to intentionaly disrupt the flow of things even though it happens in every casino I have worked in so it could be. What I do know is whilst the fill is being counted the pit boss has time to accurately count exactly how much the table is losing so when his boss (an overworked and often grumpy casino manager) wants answers he can cover his bum and give him what he wants to know.

cheers, Chris

Chris,

If you think a pit boss needs to have all the action stopped to run down a game, the 15 years you have spent working in casinos has been with some sorry arsed bosses. Any boxmen worth his weight in salt can tell within $100 what the table is doing in 10 seconds by knowing what the bank was whan (s)he got on the game and by keeping track of what has gone in the box.

Curt,

Next time you THINK a casino is getting a fill JUST to chill the table, take a GOOD look at the bank and see how many chips they have of each denomination. I bet they are down to less than 6 stacks of one color or another. THAT is why they are getting a fill at that time. That or it was ordered 45 minutes earlier and just NOW the cage filled it and/or security JUST now got around to bringing it over.

Do you remember the books title that had this description on how to do this? Thanks

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Bobbigrl27: I am right handed, but, when playing craps throw left handed too. I prefer to stand to the right of the stickman and backhand the dice. I have not found it akward in any way. Always stand where you feel

comfortable. Also, what I like to do is to take my winnings then after four or five hits then up my bet. With winnings and using the House money. Don't be afraid to leave a cold table.
