Anybody have suggestions for transportation from Times Sq to Red hook on a Saturday to board a Princess cruise. And then from REd Hook to LGA after the cruise for a 2:30 departure?

Also has anyone had experience with checking in for Princess at Red Hook. Is it a smooth process?

thanks!

Manhattan/Times Square area to Red Hook-same answer (same area)-30-45 minutes minimum. Allow a lot of time for traffic.

Red Hook to LGA-be off the ship and in a vehicle by no later than 10:30. It may only be 30 minutes to the airport, but it may also be an hour. NYC airports are a jungle on the weekends after noon, so check in/security could be a looooong process. Enjoy!!!!

Take a cab. Assuming you'll be leaving from a Times Square hotel, the cabs will usually be lined up or the bellman will whistle for one. If you aren't checking out of a hotel, walk over to one and tip the bellman $$ to call you one.

if you take a cab from the Hotel, You MUST have the directions with you. The cab drivers are required to take you but may claim they don't know where it is. Its just behind the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel in Brooklyn. Depending where your hotel is its either take the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to Brooklyn(from the West side of Manhattan) take the Hamilton Avenue exit which is just past the $5.00 toll...make two quick lefts(there are signs) follow the signs to the terminal...

from the East side take the FDR drive to the Brooklyn Bridge Straight ahead to Atlantic Avenue(about 6 lights- don't follow the signs which take you off at the first exit)) make a right on Atlantic until you go under the highway make a left and then the first right follow that around until Bowne Street and make a right(follow these signs)....

or call Arecibo and they will come and pick you up for the same about $30.00 7187836465,

also they are good to use when you are getting off the ship because many times there aren't enough cabs....call as you are getting off. As someone esle has said it 20 minutes from the Red Hook Cruise terminal without traffic but it will normally take more during the day but rarely more than an hour,...The cruise terminal has arranged for a car service to be there on demand for about twice what Arecibo charges....

Thanks for the info. Does Arecibo have mini vans? There will 4 of us from the Hotel in Times Sq to Red Hook....possibly we could ride together. When should we call Arecibo on cruise day? Two hours notice?

We do have the directions to Red Hook printed out and ready. We had heard before that the cabs may say they don't know the way.

Thanks for your advice!

yes they have them two hours before should work fine(IMO) I live in Brooklyn and they have always been fine to me but like any car service they aren't always perfect.
