Hopefully a fun/info sharing thread

Recommended Posts

i wish we would have known that a balcony cabin would have made our first cruise even better. i know some people don't think a balcony makes that big of a difference, but for us, we will never cruise without a balcony again. it's wonderful to wake up in the morning and be able to walk directly out on to the balcony to see where we are and to smell the sea air ... and you don't even have to get dressed!

also, i wish we would have known about watching the pilot jump from the cruise ship on to the pilot boat as we pull out of port. once we learned about that, we watch him every time. it's always fun to watch him wave to everybody on the ship as the pilot boat pulls away. (yeah, i know, it's the little things that make us happy. lol.) :D

I LOVE to watch the Pilot jump off the ship. I didn't know that happened until our last cruise.

I wish I would have known that it is ok to ask for seconds if you really like something at dinner.

I wish I had known how slow and expensive the internet was and how cheap and plentiful the internet cafes are in port. I wasted to much time and money trying to do a live trip report when it would have been easier to save it to a flash drive and upload at a shore based internet cafe.

I wish I had known that...

you can get a free lanyard at the casino

you can get a souvenir deck of cards from the pursers desk

it's alot of fun to make signs for your door...can be a great pre-cruise activity for the whole clan, they make great souvenirs, and they help you find which cabin is yours at night!

that soda cards can be purchased at any bar...you don't have to stand in the long line at the soda card table on the lido deck

bringing an insulated cup, a few 16 oz bottles of water, and a soft pack cooler make you feel more at home...always fresh, cheap, ice cold water during the night available to wash down any meds for what ails you!

and one I never knew about, or whether it's true, but will liekly try next time....the casino pays best early in the voyage!:)

Wish we'd known how the DOD worked. We paid full price for all of them and took home a whole bunch of plastic hurricane glasses.

Don't feel bad, I was guilty of this one too!

I wish I knew there was so much stuff to do. I didn't plan very well, over packed becasue I was worried I'd be bored, and then I missed a lot of trivia/shows I wish I would have seen. I pay better attention to the Capers now!

I wish I had known that they would be serving lunch on Lido Deck when we boarded. (We stopped and had lunch at McD's before we arrived at the port.) :o I thought our first meal/chance for food on the ship would be dinner that night in the dining room.

I'd wish we had:

1. known about CrusieCritic

2. Known that you can get free motion sickness pills from the pursers desk

3. you can get a souvenir deck of cards from the pursers desk

4. The internet is superslow as well as the computers on the ship. so somthing that you could normally do in like a couple seconds now takes a couple minuts!

5. again I wished we knew about Cruise Critic

we always tell the other people at our dinner table about cruise critic!

before my first cruise I wish I had known..... that we were going to be addicted and that my DH would never want to do another type vacation. I might have tried a few land vacations before I gave it all up for cruising.

This one is fresh in my mind since my first cruise was last week! :) I wish I had known that those "not-to-be-missed" "very important" talks that I took time out of my morning to go to afterwards replay over and over on a channel on the tv.

I second that...why waste precious moments of vacation on a sales talk? my first cruise I just didn't know any better.

Not exactly my first cruise, but my DH first cruise. I wish we would have splurged for the balcony for our honeymoon. We had ov and money was tight paying for half of the wedding. I was afraid we wouldnt have enough spending money. If anyone can can afford it, especially for something as special as a honeymoon, splurge for the balcony. We have been hooked ever since we have had balcony and suite. My DH does not want to go without. Even this time we are getting 2 rooms because our kids are older now. We have 1 balcony and 1 inside for next cruise. We also just closed on our house right before the wedding, so money was really, really tight back then. We still had a great time and met some great people on our honeymoon. We won bingo, too!

Also, for 1st timers, I agree with above poster about seconds on entrees or dessert at dinner. Some of our waiters every night would automatically give my DH extra ice cream each night, even when he didn't ask for it. Don't be embarassed if you love something to ask for more. You're waiters really won't mind.

Relax and have a good time. Don't feel like you have to do everything. Just do what feels right at the time. If you miss something or don't have enough time for everything. Don't worry, you'll still have a great time.

Ice cream is 24 hours a day, YUMMM!

Don't forget soda is NOT included in price of cruise!

Coffee is not that great. So die hard coffee drinkers, be prepared!

Pools are salt water, not fresh water. I lot of people don't realize until they jump in and swallow some of that water.LOL!

Chair hogs are out early saving chairs, even if they never end up going to the pool all day. Just a heads up. It may be hard to find one in a good location.

All I can think of right now. Everyone who is new, just read everything you can on CC. I wish I also found this website earlier. I am going on my 8th cruise next year and only found this website right before our last one on Glory last year. Thanks all here at cruisecritic!!!:):)
