You can take it onboard. If it is really big, they might ask you to check it. Somebody will be here any minute saying the xray thing is the same as airlines.

 

WRONG.

 

I have seen full size bags go through on almost every cruise. Not sure why you want to do that, especially if you board late morning to early afternoon. You will not be able to get to stateroom until after 1pm or later.
