njhorseman Posted June 24, 2009 #51 Share Posted June 24, 2009 NCL runs specials all the time and overseas they have different rules(and charge more) also sometimes the TA throws things in....and I don't doubt the poster at all. Unless I'm missing something here, the poster we are addressing appears to be from Pennsylvania, so I don't think he booked with an overseas travel agent.;) It sounds like he's taking a Baltic cruise followed by the repo cruise back to NY. njhorseman Posted June 24, 2009 #53 Share Posted June 24, 2009 isn't PA another country?....you knew that was coming :) I agree...anything west of the Delaware River is in another country. Of course you may think that of anything west of the Hudson. :D
ZoneHPH Posted June 24, 2009 #54 Share Posted June 24, 2009 I agree...anything west of the Delaware River is in another country. Of course you may think that of anything west of the Hudson. :D seems many NYers do. then you throw in the brooklynites...where anything west of the east river is foreign land. quite amazing to hear all this about the boroughs. Sea Hound Posted June 24, 2009 #55 Share Posted June 24, 2009 yes but then if its rush hour you have to cross the Hudson to NY which is what most people complain about. Manhattan's streets(vs the highway) during rush hour are not normally that bad....and most of the back up is either to or from NJ....or on the BQE which you avoid from LGA if you go the Queensboro Bridge. This am the GW was backed up for an hour and the Lincoln tunnel its normal 40 minutes. Riding the NJ Transit train during rush hour is fun... and as I said before shortest in distance doesn't mean shortest in time. but LGA is still physically closest. Which itineraries leave NYC at or around weekday rush hour?

The mileages are wrong. Go to Mapquest or google earth and work them out yourself. You shouldn't believe everything you read on the NCL site. Its 8.18 miles from LGA to the Cruise terminal. It may be 30 miles if you have someone who will take the Looooooonnnng way and then it will a $100 cab ride too. "Taxis are available. JFK and La Guardia approximately $40.00, Newark approximately $25.00" from the NCL website... if you find a cab who drive you for $25.00(per cab not per person) from Newark I'll eat my hat. The cab from JFK is fixed by the NYC TLC at $45.00 plus tip and toll. The cab from EWR is fixed at $55.00 plus tolls(about 12.00-the tunnel is $8.00 and the turnpike is about $4.00) and tip....these are per cab prices...and yes the one from LGA will be $40 or less including toll and tip. this is what a limo company charges from the three airports(sometime the limo companies do charge less) but they are in the ballpark but are plus tolls and tip http://www.carmellimo.com/Airports.shtml
smeyer418 Posted June 25, 2009 #58 Share Posted June 25, 2009 here are the maps and the mileage http://www.mapquest.com/mq/3-QNPMeHEp9*ER from LGA 8.18 http://www.mapquest.com/mq/1-6jMG*wReOe_xjkEIXgsI EWR 16.05 miles http://www.mapquest.com/mq/9-UYcdJ75p3eAJquyh from JFK 18.87 miles(this is different from what I posted before because I wanted to see if going through the Queensboro Bridge from JFK-and no toll was different- its less) Note than none are 30 miles! one more avoiding the toll on the NJ Turnpike through the Holland tunnel is 15.46 miles you can't avoid the toll into NY from NJ no matter how you go...http://www.mapquest.com/mq/5-HVchW3WkRS2GnMjvoIc1
WELLDOITAGAIN Posted June 25, 2009 #59 Share Posted June 25, 2009 hmmmm...i'm not sure if the transfers are free. perhaps it's part of the air/sea package? my DW and i purchased transfers from MIA to the FLL airport upon our return from the Bahamas. we probably couldn't have gone cheaper, i suppose. but we just called out PCC and he charged us a fee and now NCL will be taking us on the shuttle to the airport. i think you can get transfers to either airport. Are you taking the Everglades trip on the way to FLL? It's not much more than the regular shuttle. I really wanted to do that, but DW had other ideas! njhorseman Posted June 28, 2009 #63 Share Posted June 28, 2009 hi i would take flight to jfk its in queens not far from manhattan hope this helps you out So, your advice is to use the airport that is furthest from the cruise ship terminal and has the poorest selection of domestic flights...
