Desdichado62 Posted May 1, 2014 #1652 Share Posted May 1, 2014 (edited) Desdichado62 You mentioned back a few threads about this boat service being new. Is it currently in service? I have looked on their website and I could by tickets in advance, but I am reluctant to do that without much knowledge of their service. Any advice about purchasing tickets before arriving on a cruise ship. It would be nice not to have to wait in lines to get tickets. It also would be nice not to wait in line for tickets for the Vasa Museum and Skansen as well. Do you know how we could accomplish that? Their first day of service was April 16th or 17th so yes they are in service. You can find their facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/Redsightseeing I don't know if there is possible to buy tickets in advance for Skansen and/or Vasa but I don't think so. We arrive 12:30 pm on July 9 and board ship Jul 11. We are debating the Stockholm card vrs HOHO boats or both. Any advice For 2½-3 days I say yes to getting the Stockholm card. As for the HoHo boats it depends on what you plan to do and in what order. Edited May 1, 2014 by Desdichado62

I still, just like Desdichado recommend the Stockholm card if you are longer than one day. It gives you much more flexibility.
Desdichado62 Posted May 2, 2014 #1655 Share Posted May 2, 2014 we would be doing the normal highlights Vasa, Gamla Stan, palace. We won't go very far. OK, I still think that a Stockholm card would be preferable over HoHO since a Stockholm card will give you more flexibility as well as free entrance to many museums and also free transport with buses trams and subways. We are trying to plan hotel to dock transport. We are staying near Skansen. Thanks Your ship will dock at F638 at Frihamen. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=42545392#post42545392 We are in docked in Stockholm for 2 days and are considering going to the Birka Museum. Is this worthwhile and doable on our first day in port. We dock at 8:00 am.Thanks. Doable yes, is it worth it? I don't know, basically it is a two hour journey by boat there, 4 hours at Birka and then a two hour journey back to Stockholm. Birka itself is quite interesting however from what I've read it's quite expensive there and there aren't much remains to see but the museum is supposed to be nice. http://www.tripadvisor.se/ShowUserReviews-g3723906-d324228-r5476961-Birka_and_Hovgarden-Bjork.html http://www.stromma.se/en/Stockholm/Sightseeing/Day-trips/Birka---The-Viking-City/ The cost is 360SEK (about $55USD) for adults (12 y.o. or older) and 180 for children (aged 6-11) which included boat trip, guided tour and entrance fee to the museum. Cruisepucks Posted May 6, 2014 #1659 Share Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the feedback on Birka Museum. We may decide to book it as it is a nice change. We are docked at Frihamnen 634 and would need to get to Stadshusbron to catch the boat to Birka Island. How would be the best way to get there and how long would it take? Will bus 76 get us there and what kind of ticket would we need to buy? The ship docks at 8:00 am and the boat leaves from Stadshusbron at 10:00 am. Is that enough time to make it. Thanks for your feedback. Truly a big help. Edited May 6, 2014 by Cruisepucks

This is how you have to go: From Fihamnen to Kungsträdgården (kungsträdgårdsgatan): Bus #76 towards Norra Hammarbyhamnen From Kungsträdgården (kungsträdgårdsgatan) to Tegelbacken Bus #62 towards Fredhäll. From Tegelbacken walk to the boat (about 300m). https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Tegelbacken/59.3281091,18.0580481/@59.3280982,18.0601783,539m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x0:0x202026cac16dd5a6!2m2!1d18.062337!2d59.328541!1m0!3e2 This will take about 30 minutes. Desdichado62 Posted May 8, 2014 #1662 Share Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the directions. A bit more complicated than I thought it would be but guess we will give it a try. No it's not that complicated. Here is where you'll change bus: https://www.google.com/maps/@59.332165,18.072,3a,90y,320.59h,72.53t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sMSm7-URS3fCRbCEGLja9Zg!2e0 The bus stop in the centre of the picture is where you both get off #76 and get on the next bus (#62). Then at Tegelbacken: https://www.google.com/maps/@59.328486,18.062303,3a,75y,305.78h,89.16t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s8xNWGP4bs6S1TLUgSYpCgA!2e0 The bus stop is to the right, then just walk towards the city hall (the large brick tower in the background), under the bridge and continue until you see the boats on your left. You might even be able to see the red flags behind the bridge, which is the boats berth Edited May 8, 2014 by Desdichado62

I don't know how popular these tours are so perhaps you could send an email to the address listed at this page: http://international.stockholm.se/the-city-hall/tours-of-the-city-hall/ and ask them for advice. However it does say: " In June, July and August, there are tours available in English every 30 minutes between 09.30 and 16.00" Edited May 11, 2014 by Desdichado62

According to Stockholm card web site FAQ you'll have to pick them up at the Stockholm Visitor Center, Kulturhuset, (house of culture) Sergels Torg 3. If the boat drops you off near Slussen it will be a 0.8 miles walk 'm afraid. http://www.visitstockholm.com/en/stockholmcard/

The closest is the western entrance called Hazeliusporten. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/59.3276925,18.0924337/59.327386,18.0986829/@59.3280391,18.0970644,542m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m4!4m3!1m0!1m0!3e2 https://www.google.com/maps/@59.327419,18.098431,3a,29.8y,105.42h,96.49t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sQEEuq1gIKZHRariTS8ROqA!2e0 The closest route is to take a right turn when you exit Vasa, walk along the side of the museum, across the lawns and the across the street. You could also go up the stairs at the side of the museum, past the Estonia memorial and through Galärvarvskyrkogården and then across the street.
