Yes there are two entrances. The closest is the western entrance called Hazeliusporten.

The closest route is to take a right turn when you exit Vasa, walk along the side of the museum, across the lawns and the across the street.

You could also go up the stairs at the side of the museum, past the Estonia memorial and through Galärvarvskyrkogården and then across the street.

Thank you, that is just the information I needed.

It looks like we'll need only a one way bus ticket to the Vasa on our first day. I know there are various cards and what not for transportation, but since we'll validate a Stockholm Card once we get to the Vasa, we only need a one way ticket.

Do the drivers take money or do we buy a single one way (I think it would be one zone from Radisson Blu Waterfront - or more correctly Kungsgaten) from a machine? We're going to take the historical no 7 tram back from Djurgarden with the Stockholm card. That tram is covered by the tram - correct?

There have been so many questions and posts about bus directions and transportation, I'm getting concerned about distances. We are staying at the Sheraton. We plan on visiting the Vasa, Old Town and City Hall as a minimum. Is this all walkable? We would consider anything in the 2-3 mile range to be a comfortable distance.

Thank You.

This thread has been a great help and need a little guidance with transportation from Arlanda to our hotel in Gamla Stan early in the morning in August. We plan on buying a 72 hour Stockholm card as we will be able to use it for 2 1/2 days but am not sure whether to use it to take the commuter train or purchase separate Arlanda Express one way tickets. Sounds like the commuter train takes longer but is it more of a hassle as well? Thanks for your insight!

All public buses and trams requires you to have bought a valid ticket before you go onto the bus/tram.

If you arrive by train, tickets can be bought at SL center at the lower floor of Centralstation which is next door to Radisson blu .

They probably have ticket machines there as well.

For those who arrive by ship, tickets are sold by Stockholm Visitors Board at both Stadsgården (Berth S167) and Frihamnen (Berth F638).

For those who moor at a buoy on Strömmen, bus tickets can be bought at Slussen subway station or at Spelslussen.

All regular SL tickets/cards and the Stockholm card are valid on the Djurgårdslinjen vintage tram. http://www.djurgardslinjen.se/en/

the City Hall (around 400m) and Old Town (about 400m) is most certainly walkable. Vasa is about 2.5Km (~1.7 miles).

The commuter train will take slightly longer time, about 35-40 minutes compared to Arlanda Express which takes about 25 minutes.

The commuter train is also less frequent then Arlanda Express.

You can search connections with: http://reseplanerare.resrobot.se/bin/query.exe/en?L=vs_resrobot&

From: Arlanda Central Station To: Stockholm Centralstation.

I don't know if it is a hassle but I know you have to pay an additional fee despite using the Stockholm card.

I don't have any personal experience so I can't give you a better answer then this.

Thanks Desdichado62. It was suggested to purchase Arlanda Express tickets in advance because it is less expensive but what I am seeing is 260 SEK for a one way adult and 130 SEK for a pensioner. Maybe we should wait to purchase on the platform if there is a summer discount???

I agree that you could wait for a while.

It says on their website that:

Thanks D! And, thanks for the answer to Cricketts - I didn't realize the Vasa was so close - only a little over 1.5 miles from the train station area. Walking is our preferred method to get a feel for a city!

GronaLund which is at Skansen and a stop on the HoHo boat, shows free admission to over 65s, is this just for locals, or anyone over 65

We plan to visit Skansen and we're over 65 too, but what would we be likely to see at GronaLund please? Is it just concerts or something like that?

I notice that the #7 seems to only operate on Sat/Sun up to June 14 when it starts 7 day service.

Checked SL site but still a little confused about tickets. I know I can't buy on bus. If I buy a ticket say at a Pressbyrån is there a time limit to it from when I buy it? Our primary method of transport will be the HOHO boats but may need a couple of bus trips.

We're planning on using it on June 21st - a Saturday (however, with the holiday I hope it will be operating), else we'll take bus 69 back, or walk.

Another calorie burning question: Which of these running routes would be more scenic:

http://www.mapmyrun.com/se/stockholm-stockholm/5-74km-run-on-2013-05-22-route-212994051

Since we're heading out toward Skansen on our first day for sightseeing thought we might head west for our exercise run on day 2.

If you buy an one use ticket from a ticket machine, the ticket is valid 75 min from purchase with unlimited amount of changes.

If you buy an one use ticket card from i.e. Pessbyrån, the card is valid 75 min from the first time that you use it with unlimited amount of change.

    ---

One use ticket card. 1 zone, 36 SEK

The ticket card is bought at retailers (like Pressbyrån, 7-eleven and etc) and SL-center (located at Stockholm centralstation)

You can buy it advance, the date for last use is printed on the backside of ticket card.

The ticket is valid for the zone that are written on the card (zone 1 in your case), for 75 minutes from the time of first use.

In July we are sailing on the Legend of the Seas, and disembark at sometime after 7am on Sunday 27th July. Our flight is not until 6.10pm. RCI do not appear to be offering any trips including transfer to the airport as we have done on other cruises. As we do not wish to spend all day at the airport we are looking at what we can do. Possibilities:-

1) Early transfer to the airport, drop off luggage, take express train back to town for sightseeing.

2) Transfer to the rail station, leave luggage there if possible, do sightseeing, take express train to the airport.

Are the options viable? Does anyone have any other suggestions on how we can do this?

Many thanks

Imo, option 2 would be the best thing to do. There are plenty of luggage boxes at Stockholms Centralstation;

Hello,

We will be in Stockholm on Friday May 30, arriving at Frihamnen. We have from 9am to 4 pm. We plan to get public transport or a cab to the Vasa Museum. Then go to Ostermalmshallen for lunch and then to walk around Gamla Stan, perhaps with a visit to City Hall.

First of all, does this seem doable in the time we have?

What is the best means of transport to get from the Vasa to Ostermalmshallen and then to Gamla Stan?

Any suggestions would be most welcome including where to eat in Ostermalmshallen.

Thanks so much

I can't recommend a specific place to eat at Östermalmshallen but you can find them all here: http://www.ostermalmshallen.se/restaurang-bar-cafe/

I am not sure if you manage to do all these things but it in the order that you have planned;

Vasa->Östermalmshallen->Gamla Stan. Then when you are in Gamla Stan you can decide for yourself if you have time for the City Hall or not.

Hi again,

I just discovered that Vasa does not open until 10 am, so clearly my order of events does not make the best use of our time. What order would you suggest?

Thanks
