For those who might wonder when their ship arrives at the outskirts of Stockholm's archipelago,

you can check this website with public info about ships that have requested pilot assistance

(mandatory for all ships that is longer then 90m)

https://eservices.sjofartsverket.se/lotsinfopublic/lotsning_frames.asp

at område select: Stockholm/Svartklubben LS

at: Best.start: select your preferred dates (one week forward is max).

Then click sök.

Best.start is what time (in 24 hour clock mode) that the ship have requested the pilot to embark.

Plan.lotsstart is what time the piloting is scheduled to start.

Från is where the pilot will board the ship, usually at Tjärven http://kartor.eniro.se/m/6IgcR or Revengegrundet: http://kartor.eniro.se/m/JuNOS

Till is where the pilot disembark the ship which is either where the ships berth (for the sail in) or Tjärven or Revengegrundet (for the sail out).

I have a transportation question...

We are planning on getting off the cruise ship early and taking the HOHO boat to the Vasa Museum.

After that, how do we get to Gamla Stan and then back to the cruise ship?

HoHo boat? Taxi? Walk?

Thanks :)

Everything depends on where your ship docks. Which ship are you on and when does it dock in Stockholm?

Since you mention HoHo boats, I assume that you dock at Stadsgården.

From Vasa to Gamla Stan, either bus #76 towards Norra Hammarbyhamnen from Djurgårdsbron to Slottsbacken.

Bus tickets need to be bought in advance and can be bought from the kiosk next to Djugårdsbron.

https://www.google.se/maps/place/Djurg%C3%A5rdsbron,+Stockholm/@59.330746,18.094043,3a,26.8y,223.51h,86.6t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1smxv_3hkPvNV-ACVzzzrYAA!2e0!4m7!1m4!3m3!1s0x465f9d53b712a1e9:0x939d59800aa07a11!2sDjurg%C3%A5rdsbron,+Stockholm!3b1!3m1!1s0x465f9d53b712a1e9:0x939d59800aa07a11

The other option is Djurgårdsfärjan (harbour ferry) which departs from Allmänna gränd.

https://www.google.se/maps/dir/59.3277925,18.0920828/Stockholm+Allm%C3%A4nna+gr%C3%A4nd+brygg/@59.325429,18.0934564,16z/data=!4m9!4m8!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d5547c2528b:0x30c914a4f5a65e1d!2m2!1d18.094564!2d59.324072!3e2

The ferry docks at the southern end of Gamla Stan.

From Gamla Stan back to the ship either walk:

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/59.3220484,18.072887/59.3192494,18.0730492/59.3187686,18.0775859/59.3176324,18.0827101/59.3171672,18.0890259/59.3154194,18.0941645/59.3156161,18.0954375/59.315961,18.1028648/@59.3143446,18.0944434,639m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m20!4m19!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m10!3m4!1m2!1d18.0955199!2d59.3162485!3s0x465f7803d396be31:0xb141bf5b2a6571d!3m4!1m2!1d18.0997112!2d59.3153349!3s0x465f7803eff35af9:0xd2aed2c412838827!1m0!3e2?hl=sv

or go with bus #53 from Slussen towards Henriksdalsberget or Finnberget, get off at Londonviakdukten.

again bus tickets must be bought in advance, find sales points at: http://sl.se/en/ click sales point.

bus #53 stops at Katarinavägen:https://www.google.com/maps/@59.319318,18.072861,3a,75y,312.72h,76.71t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s3BopzrX-dJ5px7ViK4-MyQ!2e0?hl=sv

  • 2 weeks later...

I would like to make a correction to one of my previous advices regarding sales points for bus tickets at Djurgården.

I have previously mentioned a kiosk next to Djurgårdsbron as a sales points for tickets.

However when I visited Stockholm and Djurgården today I noticed that Royal Kiosken had been demolished and

a new combined Restaurant/café/kiosk had been built on it's location.

At Sl.se Royal Kiosken is still incorrectly mentioned as a sales point and I don't know if the new place sells bus tickets and etc.

If they don't sell bus tickets, the nearest sales point (according to sl.se) is Strand Grill at

Strandvägen 47, 11 456 Stockholm

We are a group of 6-7 adults and our cruise ends in Stockholm on June 28, 2015. What is the best way to get all of us and our luggage to where we are staying (likely an Airbnb rental in/near city center.) Should we split up into 2 taxis or should we schedule a van to come pick us up?

Thank you!

We are an extended family of eight and are booked on a Baltic cruise out of Stockholm for end May 2015, am looking for a budget hotel on/near Gamla Stan for one night pre-cruise. I see some people suggest a hostel room with en-suite bathroom, how good or otherwise are they for older couples, our group has three generations. Would like your suggestions, something which wouldn't break the bank, thanks in advance:)

We are using Airbnb to rent an apartment. Something to consider for sure!

I had a look around and it quite much depends on what your definition of budget is and how far away from Gamla Stan that is "close".

I have atleast found one hotel that seems to match your preferences.

It is called Hotel Hornsgatan and is small hotel at Södermalm, just south west from Gamla Stan and abot 1 mile from the Royal Palace.

http://www.tripadvisor.se/Hotel_Review-g189852-d2244777-Reviews-Hotel_Hornsgatan-Stockholm.html

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Hornsgatan+66B,+118+21+Stockholm,+Sverige/59.3259063,18.0720399/@59.3221954,18.0582783,15z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f77e663c3181d:0x177de96cfc4909fd!2m2!1d18.0591224!2d59.3185713!1m0!3e2

Then there is a hotel called Comfort Hotell Kungsbron.

http://www.tripadvisor.se/Hotel_Review-g189852-d206396-Reviews-Comfort_Hotel_Stockholm-Stockholm.html

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Kungsbron+1,+111+22+Stockholm,+Sverige/59.3263146,18.0696156/@59.3306301,18.0515543,15z/data=!4m14!4m13!1m10!1m1!1s0x465f9d613ddb3365:0xe26c0825c9c32b11!2m2!1d18.0544032!2d59.333027!3m4!1m2!1d18.0677175!2d59.3275975!3s0x465f9d58b33e2fd7:0x3b31824a4f4820b1!1m0!3e2

However is is located next to Stockholm's major railway station and also next to a quite busy road.

Distance is about 1 mile to the Royal Palace.

I would recommend you to visit a hotel booking site and conduct a search with your desired preferences.

Thanks a lot for the recommendations, Hornsgatan sounds good but will search some more. I was thinking about $150/night but am not sure if this is doable as I've only just started looking around. Someone also suggested Drottning Victorias Orlogshem, how is this place? Both are over nightclubs and some reviews complain of noise, but we'll be there on a Wednesday night, so hopefully it won't be too bad. BTW, Kryssa, does Airbnb do single nights?

$150/night per room should be doable but allot of the hotels seems to be booked already for the last wednesday in May.

So don't wait to long to book your accommodation.

Drottning Victorias Örlogshem have a good rating at TripAdvisor;

http://www.tripadvisor.se/Hotel_Review-g189852-d1720176-Reviews-Drottning_Victorias_Orlogshem-Stockholm.html

Very close to Gamla Stan:

Hotel Söder also seems to be a decent hotel but perhaps above your budget.

We will be arriving Arlanda on a Tuesday AM and leaving on our ship on Thursday at 5 pm. I think we can see quite a bit and just looking to see if getting a 3 day Stockholm Card makes sense. We want to go to Drottningholm and believe there is a small discount for the private ferry, but other than that most everything else we want to see seems to be covered with the card: Vasa, Skansen, Armory, Mews, City Hall. Buy in advance or once we arrive? Thanks!

I don't think there is any price difference between buying in advance and buying on arrival.

I guess that it is convenient to already have them when you arrive so you don't have to spend time at buying then when you arrive.

You are right that there is a small discounts for Strömma's passenger boats that goes to Drottningholm.

Strömma also offers a small discount if you buy/book a combined boat and entry ticket.

http://www.stromma.se/sv/Stockholm/Skargard/Dagsutflykter/Drottningholm/

I also would like to recommend a visit to Nordiska museet; http://www.nordiskamuseet.se/en

We're docking with Princess in Nynashamn (:() and sorry if this has been asked already, but I haven't been able to figure it out. Does the Stockholm Card cover the train from Nynashamn too? We are planning to take the train, do the Vasa Museum, Gamla Stan, and maybe a bike tour if the weather is nice and it's covered by the Stockholm card. Thanks for your help!

That's a tight squeeze because you aren't docking in Nynashamn. You tender there and your priority is after those doing Princess excursions. You might want to consider the Princess "on you own" excursion to maximize your time. Good luck squeezing all of that in.

The commuter train is part of the SL public transport network which means that you can use the Stockholm card as a ticket.

Hi,

Thank you for answering all the questions regarding Stockholm. This is quite helpful. I have a few questions regarding my upcoming visit in late Aug.

1. We were going to take the Arlanda Express from the airport to the Stockholm Central Station. However we just found out that the Arlanda Express will be closed on Aug 30th. I found another option coming from the airport is taking the bus from airport to the Bus Central Terminal. On Google it looks like the Bus Central Terminal is very close to the Central Station. So this might work for us. Is the bus the best option coming from airport to Central Station?

2. We have a total of one and a half day in Stockholm (Sat afternoon & Sunday).

The following are the sightseeing spots we want to check out.

Vasa Museum

Skansen

Royal Palace w/ Royal Guard Change

City Hall

Gamla Stan

How should this be arranged?

What kind of transportation should we take? Bus, HOHO boat etc.?

Thank you for all your help.

Here is what I think might be the best order but it's difficult for me and I prefer nor to say what to do and when to do it. but:

afternoon: do Vasa. Then depending on how much energy/time you have left after Vasa you could either rest at hotel or head over to Skansen which are open until 10pm.

Full day (if Skansen was done the day before): start with City Hall in the morning. then do Royal palace with changing of the guards afterwards.

However it depends on at what time you arrive and etc.

The key factors are that Vasa and Skansen are both located very closely in relation to each other. The same goes for Gamla Stan with the Royal Palace.

This gives you two "pairs". With city hall being a some 15 min walk from the royal palace.
