Paminflorida Posted July 5, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2009 Any one going on this cruise? We have been on SeaDream many times but first time on Seabourn. Do men all wear tuxes on formal nights? My husband refuses to wear his tux on vacation so if so, we're eating in the stateroom those nights! :)
Chairsin Posted July 5, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2009 Don't worry -- on our past cruises there have always been some gentlemen who opted for a nice dark suit instead. And if that does not suit your husbnd you can always dine in the Vernadah/ 2 Restaurant. As for my husband, Sailor Boy, he would be happy to wear his tux to dinner evey night! We leave on your same itinerary on the 18th of July -- not long to go now!!! Paminflorida Posted July 5, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted July 5, 2009 Thanks for the tip -- would love to hear any advice you have when you return from your trip in a few weeks, such as must-do excursions or those which can be avoided -- thanks again! GrannyLorr Posted July 6, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 6, 2009 We will be embarking on August 29th, doing two back to backs, starting in Copenhagen and ending in London......have just started packing! Seems ages since we have been anywhere!
Chairsin Posted July 6, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 6, 2009 I will be happy to pass any insights we gain on our trip on our return. However, regarding tours, we generally avoid group tours like the plague -- we either ramble around on our own or in this case have a hired a private tour guide for two and a half days in St Petersburg and a very full day from Warnemunde to visit Berlin with the two other couples with whom we are traveling. You might meet some people on the ship and try to use Seabourn's tour person to put something together last minute or you might arrange for something now with your travel agent. It is a lot more expensive but avoids the pitfalls of traveling with a large group and you can tailor the experience to what interests you.We also have a full day with the Virtouso outing in Helsinki so I know I will be quite toured out. Next Seabourn cruise no tours! As another option you could just hang around with GrannyLorr -- you might end up in jail but I am sure you would never have a dull moment:p
Paminflorida Posted July 15, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted July 15, 2009 So it's us and GrannyLorr on this cruise? No one else out there??
fastlane Posted July 15, 2009 #7 Share Posted July 15, 2009 My wife and I will be joining you! We're hoping to find (at least) one other "Between Friends" eligible couple to come along with us.
Paminflorida Posted July 15, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted July 15, 2009 Right -- we need one more couple who booked at no more than a 45% discount from "brochure" fares, and then all three of us will get a $1500 credit towards excursions! Surely there's got to be one more couple out there who can get in on this great offer with us!
Paminflorida Posted August 1, 2009 Author #9 Share Posted August 1, 2009 Just putting another post out there to see if there are any other couples on Pride departing August 29th would did not receive more than a 45% discount? We have 2 couples and need a third for the "Between Friends" promotion -- sailing exactly 4 weeks from today -- can't wait!:)
fastlane Posted August 4, 2009 #10 Share Posted August 4, 2009 ...that Granny, Pam and us will be the only ones on this sailing?? If so, it sure will be an empty ship! ;)
fastlane Posted August 4, 2009 #11 Share Posted August 4, 2009 Have written my contact at Seabourn re: ballet offerings in St Petersburg during our call there, September 1-3. The ship's tour is offering Swan Lake. The company is apparently a mixed bag. In addition to Swan Lake (performed by a number of companies throughout the year), on September 1, Giselle will be performed at the Hermitage Theater. Don't know the company, but the theater looks acceptably small. Will report back with more info as it develops.
GrannyLorr Posted August 11, 2009 #12 Share Posted August 11, 2009 fastlane...if you hear any more about the Ballet at the Hermitage Theatre we could be interested.....even if only to see the theatre! Havent seen Giselle for years either....sick to death of Duck Lake......
fastlane Posted August 11, 2009 #13 Share Posted August 11, 2009 fastlane...if you hear any more about the Ballet at the Hermitage Theatre we could be interested.....even if only to see the theatre! Havent seen Giselle for years either....sick to death of Duck Lake...... Hi Granny, I can't speak for the production, but the theater looks great. I have not heard back from Seabourn - my sense is that they just as soon steer clear of any production which competes with their own tour. So we have committed to DenRus for tickets and transportation to and from the theater. Here's what they have offered: I can arrange the evening program for two of you. The Hermitage Theatre is beautiful ( you feel in the 19th century), the ballet, too. I do not know about the company but they are all professionals. The program will be as follows: 1915 – meeting guide/drive and starting for the theatre 2000-2230 – Gizelle ballet at the Hermitage Theatre 2300- back to ship The cost will be : tickets $86x2=$172 Guide and transport $127 ( car without a/c) or $168(car with a/c) So the total will be $299 or $340. We will provide “group visa” ( tour tickets) for you, and you will have to be accompanied by your guide during this program If you want to add more people , it would be better that you let me know the final number, as then the cost per person will be different in view of guide/transport price changes. We have told them we didn't need a car with a/c. Here's what I've gleaned from Hermitage's website (http://www.hermitageballet.com/site/807174/page/45029) Giselle: Fantasy Ballet in two acts Music: Adolphe Adam Choreography: Jean Coralli, Jules Perrot and Marius Petipa Conductor: Stanislav Gorkovenko Orchestra: St. Petersburg Radio & TV Symphony Orchestra September 1, 2009 8:00 pm Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the performance. Seats in the theater are not assigned, therefore, you can choose any seat available. Katja is my contact at DenRus. She has been extremely responsive to all my messages. She is away from her desk today and tomorrow (08/11-12), back Thursday. Here is her email address: katjak@denrus.ru We would love it if you'd join us. There is still time to complete the arrangement. The transportation cost would come down a little with four of us going. If I can add anything to this, email me at: fast-lane at sbcglobal dot net. GrannyLorr Posted August 11, 2009 #14 Share Posted August 11, 2009 fastlane, I have just sent you an email....let me know if it doesnt arrive! I had a bit of trouble with the address at first, but think I just had an "extra" space somewhere....... Been looking at pages about the Hermitage Theatre....like this bit.....;) " And whatever events may be hosted here, the organisers try to maintain the court traditions of the days of old: guests should feel comfortable and at home, though they must observe the golden rule of Catherine the Great, which states that «To leave all titles at the door, as well as hats and, most importantly swords. Seniority and haughtiness should also be left at the door». These are genuine words of wisdom for those who come to work, socialise and rest at the Hermitage Theatre." Paminflorida Posted August 13, 2009 Author #16 Share Posted August 13, 2009 Fastlane and GrannyLorr, I think we'll skip the ballet but look forward to sailing with you in 2 weeks! One more shout out to see if there aren't any other couples sailing with us who might be able to take advantage of the "Between Friends" incentive?!?
Chairsin Posted August 13, 2009 #17 Share Posted August 13, 2009 Hope you guys have as good a time as we did. I am still suffering greatly from Seabourn withdrawl --I do believe the only remedy is to plan another cruise -- maybe January going to Cost Rica and the Panama Canal.Give all of the crew a big hug from Mrs. S who put on the crazy Russian dinner. Paminflorida Posted August 13, 2009 Author #18 Share Posted August 13, 2009 Thanks for all your great posts -- another question -- which 3 nights are the formal nights? It looks like the 2 cruising days are formal but which is the third? Thanks! :)
Chairsin Posted August 13, 2009 #19 Share Posted August 13, 2009 Our third formal night was Helsinki.
champers Posted August 15, 2009 #20 Share Posted August 15, 2009 Sorry but in England we do not have the deals as in the rest of the world, maybe I have paid more, but think on Back to back 26 nights we get a beginning discount of 50% then what our agent allows us. Also doing 26 nights 29 Aug Copenhagen -London, Did same cruise nearly last year was great but very busy with excursions for some first time visitors. Will say goodbye top Pride at London Tower Bridge as no longer in Northern parts. Have fun traveling see you all on board in the Club.

Also doing 26 nights 29 Aug Copenhagen -London Champers - Seabourn is quoting "from" 6555 GBP on the 26 night itinerary. If that's 50% of the "brochure rate", not a bad deal - under 11 K USD. US website is quoting "from" $13025. In any event, if you or any of your companions on this cruise paid more than 7210.50 GBP (as a starting point before your agent's discount), you'd qualify for the "Between Friends" promotion, and we should talk! fastlane Posted August 17, 2009 #22 Share Posted August 17, 2009 Four of us have arranged with DenRus to attend "Giselle" at the Hermitage Theater our first night in St. Petersburg, September 1. If anybody else is interested, contact Katja (katjak@denrus.ru). She will be glad to give you the details and arrange tickets and transportation. Cost? About $125 per person. Fastlane has been doing all the work with the bookings for Giselle...thanks again fastlane....really looking forward to it! I found it funny how you told Katya, that "we are used to carrying copies of our passports"......guess who hadnt even thought of that after all these years of travelling? Guess who wouldnt have been threatened with arrest in Lisbon last year if she had had a copy?? Guess who has just turned her printer on and is preparing to do dozens of copies?? :D
Chairsin Posted August 18, 2009 #25 Share Posted August 18, 2009 Actually, Seabourn returned our passports to us when we were in Russia and we used the real thing to get on and off the ship each day.
