Leuser1 Posted July 7, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 7, 2009 We were there last fall for 2 days and enjoyed the bicycle taxi tours around town and exploring Chinatown on foot. The Baba Nyonya museum was a worthwhile stop and don't miss a drink at the Geographer's Cafe. We're Americans living in Indonesia so we also had to make a stop at the mall for Starbucks for me and McDonalds for my husband. We then took a bus from Melaka to KL which was easy and very cheap. chrispb Posted July 7, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 7, 2009 The tender usually takes you up the river (keep an eye on the banks for huge monitor lizards) then drops you almost in the centre where there's lots of cyclos waiting to give youa ride - well worth it. Apart from that it's easy to walk about. Head down away from the main square (where the red Dutch church is - sorry forgotten it's name) and you'll find lots of stalls with interesting things for sale at bargain prices. Leuser1 Posted July 7, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 7, 2009 It's Christ Church. It's centally located and we walked all over town from there.
Leuser1 Posted July 7, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 7, 2009 Just remembered - Lonely Planet's Guide to Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, and Penang had lots of good info on Melaka. I think that's where we found a walking tour map of Chinatown.
