Mariner Casino

Recommended Posts

Your posts have been so helpful, so here is my next question. What is the casino like, and when is it usually open? Does the ship have to be in international waters? Is mini-craps much different than the regular table?

Hi Breezepark, we went to the casino one night on the cruise. It was pretty small but it was fun. My husband didn't play craps this time, but said he thinks the craps table was a mini table. It looked and sounded like the group playing over there was having fun. They also had roulette and blackjack. There were slot machines and if I remember correctly, there was the option of penny to dollar bets on many. Some of the machines were video poker and I was happy to play video blackjack for a while.

I have forgotten what the rules are about the ship cruising and the casino being open. However I think I recall correctly that my friend went to the casino mid morning one morning when we were at port and before her excursion, so she could enter the slot tournament. I could be wrong tho, maybe we were sailing. It's all a blur!

From my experience, the casino is always closed when the ship is in port. On sea days, Passages will list any gambling competitions, and they sometimes get very lively!

The casinos on Regent ships are managed by third-party operators. Unlike the mass-market lines, you can't arrange casino credit in advance of sailing. It's cash and carry only. If you want to establish, say, a $1,000 credit, you need to send them a check for $1,000 in advance and they pledge to refund you whatever you haven't lost at the end of the cruise.

Crystal is not a mass market line. They got rid of Ceasers Palace at Sea a few years ago and they do take credit applications. I have a standing line of credit so I can take markers. Crystal runs and operates their own casino.

That's nice but who cares? The OP's question was about the casino on the Mariner. The OP was not trying to decided between Regent and Crystal. No one mentioned Crystal until you did. :(

What gaming rules apply to Regent's casinos? Some ship abide by Nevada Gaming Commission rules (i.e., Las Vegas rules) but others seem to make up their own (not a good thing).

I only played blackjack on our Mariner cruise last November. The rules were basically what you find in the major Las Vegas casinos with two exceptions. There was no surrender and the dealer stood on all 17's.

I was just pointing out that Crystal is not a mass market line and you can get a line of credit. Nothing more.;)
