Reyno Tour

This sounds like a great tour guide.

My DH and I would only want the 1/2 day tour. I will be just 6 months past back surgery, so I was wondering on how rough the roads are? Can't do anything that would bunch me around.

Thanks

Joyce

Joyce, well, the roads are somewhat bumpy in spots, and often under construction as the island gets a lot of rain (that's why they have a rain forest ;)) They are paved but very mountainous and winding. The vans Reyno has are very nice, with A/C and perhaps if you sat in the front seat where you'd have a more supportive seat, with a full back and headrest, you'd be ok? If you have certain concerns, I'm sure Reyno would be happy to discuss them with you via email. reynotours@hotmail.com

Boy, I just read an old review from 2007 that said the vans were stripped and re-fitted with smaller seats. No knee room and cramped. Hope Reyno has new vans by now.

For those that have had 8-10 passengers in the van, what was your experience? ;)

CruisinManiac, we just toured with Reyno this past Feb and we had 10 in the one van and no one complained about being cramped. Those in the second van had no complaints to my knowledge either. My hubby is 6'4" and trust me, he would not hesitate to complain if he was uncomfortable. ;) We also had lots of camera equipment and snorkel equipment in the van, and Reyno had a cooler of drinks for us as well. Hope this helps ease your mind, but if it doesn't, please email Reyno to discuss. I know the first time we were booking him, back in 2004, I had read a complaint about A/C vs no A/C and I emailed him to discuss. He was very reassuring and did not mind at all that I had emailed him. In fact, we talked about it some more during our tour and he was happy to have the opportunity to discuss CC.

As I said, the review was old, so sounds like his vans are newer. Thanks!

I don't worry about myself, but when I am heading up getting other passengers from our roll call, I feel that the excursion is a reflection on me - good or bad. Had a semi-bad experience in Rome when the guide showed up in a vehicle smaller than he said he would. We were quite cramped with all our luggage.

Oh, I understand totally, as I was the one who put together the group from our roll call last Feb. But, as I said, we had no complaints, at least in the van we were in. Now, if any of Reyno's other vans are outfitted with smaller seats, I wouldn't know, but in the two times we've toured with him, we've had full vans of 10 and we've been ok. But, if you do end up filling your van, I would still make sure you let him know you want a van with full-size seats, just to be on the safe side since you'll feel responsible for everyone's comfort. :)

Thanks I will email him and ask. I go to the doctor for my 1st. month check up tomorrow and I am going to ask him also.

DOMINICA EXCURSION

Reyno Tours took great care of my group of 28 clients when we arrived to Dominica on Nov. 3. We were met at the pier by Reynold and escorted to a fully air conditioned bus and an air conditioned van. We had a guide explaining everything we passed along the way to the Titou Gouge. It is about a 15 minute walk to the Gouge where you can actually go down a little stairway into the water. Afterwards we drove to Trafalger Falls where there is a stairway that you climb thru the rainforest to get to the viewing point to see the breathtaking view of both water falls. Some even hiked further and climbed the rocks at the bottom of the falls to be refreshed by the waters. Reynold arranged for us to stop for lunch at a little cafe on the road coming back from the Falls. The choices were chicken, fish, goat, or shrimp platters served with a rice dish and vegetables that were very plentiful. Of course we stopped a few times to capture wonderful pictures of the ship and scenery.

Following lunch we went to Mero Black Sand Beach. We had enjoyed the tour so much that it left us with little time for the beach. Since the waves were coming in so far, the sand was wet all the way to the retainer wall and the chairs were no longer out to sit on. That did not stop the people from diving into the water. Unfortunately, a rainstorm came upon us, so we decided to head back to the ship. It was nearly time to return anyway.

Another 10 folks that were with the group just wanted to go to Mero Black Sand Beach to relax for the day. They loved it. We had intended to meet up with them, but since we arrived a bit later than intended, they had already left for the ship before we arrived.

I would definitely recommend Reynold Tours to anyone considering a tour in Dominica. He was excellent about keeping in touch and answered all my questions. The drivers and guides were excellent as well. The price was great, too.

Yes, Dominica is quite "hilly". The drive was beautiful and the roads would wind around, up, and down. The views were breathtaking. If you are prone to motion sickness, I would strongly suggest taking Bonine before this excursion.

I recently corresponded with Reyno to find out the name of this restaurant, as I thought this might be someplace we'd like to try on our next visit to Dominica (and others might want to as well). The name of the restaurant is The River Rock Cafe at Trafalgar. It is near the entrance to Trafalgar Falls. Contact Reyno at reynotours@hotmail.com

Curleyqs31, there are admission charges for Trafalgar Falls and Middleham Falls, if you are going there. I believe each of those was $5 pp. I'm not sure about Emerald Pool. What tour have you booked with Reyno? He will be upfront with you on the cost of the admissions if you ask. Champagne Reef is a Marine Preserve and so has an admission charge of $3 pp, and they do rent snorkel equipment there. We had our own, but I believe you could rent a set for $10-12. When we toured with Reyno last Feb, he had a cooler in the van with sodas and beer and it was complimentary.

Curley, sadly I have to wait until March to be cruising. :( :p You will have a great cruise, and you have picked a great tour with Reyno. That is the tour we did the first time around. My husband swam in the Emerald Pool. Brrr! Too chilly for me. :) This past tour, we really enjoyed Champagne Reef; it is not a sandy beach there, it is rocky, but once you get in the water, it is so cool with all the bubbles all around you. That is the "champagne". We've snorkeled all over the Caribbean and Hawaii, and we've never seen anything like it. Plus there were a nice variety of fish and coral to see. As for taking your own snorkel equipment, well, will you be snorkeling elsewhere on your cruise? That's the decider for me. Reyno will have room in the van for your equipment so don't worry about that. In our van, we had 10 people, snorkel equipment, and some serious camera equipment, and Reyno's drink cooler and we were not cramped at all.

Have a great cruise and a great tour of Dominica and tell Reyno Becki says 'Hi'!

Emerald falls was $5pp. as well. It was a nice tour, we didnt do the champaigne reef though. I would bring the snorkel gear, you can always leave it in the van.

The shoes will be good, as there is about 10-20min up/down hill walk to and from each of the falls. Also walking in Old San Juan and St. Thomas has lots of hills too.

Does Reyno keep an eye on your stuff while it's in the van if you are snorkeling?

We had two vans, and so Reyno stayed with our group while snorkeling and the other driver stayed with the vans. Reyno also accompanied us on our hike and the other driver stayed with the vans.

Adonisr,

As I recall, when we just had one van, on a previous trip, Reyno stayed with the van, and our guide, Rosalyn, came with us on our hikes. So, there is always someone to stay with the van if you have items to leave in it.

Hello,

as Reyno has got no own Homepage on the net, does somebody have a photo of him just to make sure that we will meet and trust the right person when we get off the ship?

Or how did you know that the person introducing was Reyno (befor getting on his bus)?

Thx.

Daniel
