Alaska 2010????

This will be our first cruise to Alaska. We are thinking of the Sapphire Princess roundtrip Seattle. We have also talked about Northbound or Southbound on the Island or Coral.

Will we be missing much (glaciers) if we do the Sapphire? We can only be gone for 8-9 days, so if we went all the way up to Whittier - we would have to fly back the next day from Achorage which will cost more. We are going next summer 2010. Also what it the best time to go?

I don't know where the Sapphire is going, but we are on a southbound out of Whittier going to Glacier Bay AND Hubbard Glacier along with Skagway, Ketchikan and Juneau on September 4th, 2010. It ends in Vancouver and we are renting a car in Vancouver and driving to Seattle where airfare is cheaper. You can also take a train or bus to Seattle. We always go for the glaciers. They are awesome and so is the scenary. We will be on the Diamond Princess but it appears that they don't do this itinerary every week.

Are you completely set on Princess? Otherwise, look at Holland America. They have cruises out of Seattle and have a glacier viewing day. I can't imagine taking an Alaskan cruise with only Tracy Arm and not seeing either Hubbard or Glacier Bay, but that is just my opinion.

We are booked on the Golden Princess because Glacier Bay is on the itinerary :D I have done the NB cruise on the Island Princess and that was really nice but the added travel to Vancouver to meet the ship and the long flight to Anchorage does add expense.

You can do a nice 2 day pre-cruise in Seattle too :)

The southbound Princess cruises will go to Hubbard Glacier and Glacier Bay in 2010, whereas the northbound cruises will continue to go to Glacier Bay and College Fjord.

As LEtue mentioned, the Golden Princess goes to Glacier Bay every other week out of Seattle in 2010. We were on the Golden in May, and it's a beautiful ship.

Nancy, thanks for the clarification! I didn't realize it was on alternating weeks. :)

We booked on the Island Princess becasue it is going to both Hubbard and Glacier Bay, bonus! I decided with the amount of $ this trip was going to cost, I was going to see what I wanted even if it meant the flight was a little more. Happy planning.
