We will be leaving from New Orleans on January 23rd and I have a few questions. I know it might be chilly in New Orleans. Once we got on board and head toward Mexico, will the pools be too cold to swim for the trip? Do they heat them? Will the water be too cold to swim in Cozumel and Progresso? 80 degrees at least?? I've never cruised in January and have also heard the seas can be rough....anyone have any advice to share? Thanks!

Not sure how it will be leaving from NO, but I do know that you will have no problem swimming by the time you get to Coz. We were there in early Feb a few years ago and it was in the 90's.

We have sailed in January for the most part and the only time we were chilly was once leaving Tampa (around 60ish) and once in the Bahamas (again, 60ish). Generally, the further south you go, the warmer it gets.

We leave from Galveston, similar and had a freak snow early April 2 years ago, but we had smooth sailing in January. So, Id say you never can tell if sail away will be a freak 40 degrees, or it will be 70.

We were rainy, coolish and overcast this past January the first and last sea day. Folks still used the pool and went down the slide. No they don't heat the pool, only the hot tubs.

thank you! Maybe it will be warm enough to swim afterall

It was about 87 in the ports, once we got about a day and a half away from Galveston. hot enough to swim for sure at all our ports. I got sunburned last January.

We did a B2B January 5th and 10th from New Orleans.

The weather was beautiful. The weather in Cozumel was warm and great.

Now that being said.... it is weather.... and no one can predict what it will do.

I know the water in the pools are not heated (except the hot tubs).... but since I do not swim...I can not attest to the temps in the pool when we left New Orleans.

Weather in La. changes every 5 minutes or so.:D You just never know what you will get. It could be 70 degrees one minute and 50 the next. We sailed out of Galveston in Feb. It was cold. It was not that cold when we left home (about 3 hour drive). Had to go to Walmart to buy DH a jacket. Once we got closer to the Caribbean it was nice. Coming back we got some terrible winds. We were rocking and rolling. Usually on debarking day we go up to lido to wait but that time we waited in the casino area. Too cold to sit on lido.
