DawnCt Posted April 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2004 We are staying at the Marriott pre cruise, ($65 on Priceline) this coming weekend. We like Mexican food but are open to any suggestion that a teen will enjoy and that will be fun. We are getting in my 1 pm. Any suggestions on how to spend the afternoon and evening will be appreciated as well as any comments on the hotel. Are we going to be near any shopping areas? Thanks Dawn,Ct. Giorgi-one Posted April 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2004 The Marriott Marina is great. We are also staying precruise on July 2 ($55). Ask for a tower room with view of Port Everglades. Not many ships in the summer but it's still a good view. Pool area is beautiful, you could easily spend the afternoon there. Water taxi stops right at the hotel which will take you to the beach if you want. Lots of restaurants on 17th street and a shopping center about three blocks away where you can stock up on wine and soft drinks for your cruise. Paul Schlosser Posted April 11, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 11, 2004 We had fun on the Water Taxi, seeing the expensive homes that line the New River. An all day pass is $5 and you can get on and off at any stop. Ask the Water Taxi driver to talk about the homes. We lucked out and got a driver that knew quite a bit of history and who the owners were or are. Interesting stuff. Get off at Las Olas Blvd and tour the shopping and restaurant areas. They say it compares to Rodeo Drive in CA. We had an excellent seafood dinner at 15st Fisheries, one of the stops on the Water Taxi route.
Bluto Posted April 11, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 11, 2004 There is a great Mexican restaurant across the street called Carlos ane Pepe's. As far as what to do, you have endless options. There is A1A on the beach with Beach Place, The riverfront area,a nd Las Olas Blvd. They all have great shopping and dining as well......Ask the front desk and they will tell you the quickest way to get there. gann Posted April 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 11, 2004 We stayed in the Marriott a couple of weeks ago and got the room through priceline. I didn't ask for any special room and they put us on the 10th floor over looking the cruise ships. We got to watch about 8 ships leave including the one that we rode in on. Its a great Hotel and the water taxi is not to be missed for $5 all day. Enjoy!! Don

CGTNORMANDIE Posted April 12, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 12, 2004 HI DAWN!! All you have to do is ask them for a room with a view of the Port...Most regular guests want a room on the back side that overlooks the pool. I prefer the port view but you need to get up at least 6-7 stories so you can see over the bridge. 10th. floor is perfect. robertlew Posted April 12, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Does anyone know which hotels near the port are rated as what star number? Will be in this summer and want to try but am not sure which star and location to bid for.
signman Posted April 12, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Prior to Priceline bidding go to www.biddingfortravel.com Absolutely invaluable. Learn it. Use it. Save $$$$
Bluto Posted April 12, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Robert, There is an Embassy Suites, Pier sixty six, and the Marriot which should all rank about 4 stars on priceline. They are all on 17th st causeway which is right outside the port entrance.
Bluto Posted April 12, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 12, 2004 RobertLew I forgot the beach area has additional hotels like the Sheraton Yankee Clipper and Marriot Harbor beach which also should be 4 stars
Giorgi-one Posted April 12, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 12, 2004 As suggested, go to Biddingfortravel which gives directions for using Priceline and star ratings for hotels most commonly won on Priceline. When you bid, you need to specify both area and star rating. Mariott Marina and Embassy suites are 3* Downtown which is closest to the Port. We love the Marriott Marina and just got it for $55 for July 2nd. Pier Sixty-Six is 4* Ft. Lauderdale Beach. Sheraton Yankee Clipper is 3* Ft. Lauderdale Beach. Marriott Harbor Beach is Resort Ft. Lauderdale Beach. This place is really swank and hard to get on Priceline. Note that a $10 or $15 resort fee will be added to your bill each day. Beautiful place but remote location. I believe that they charge $20 per day parking.
