NY-area person booted from RCCL cruise in Norway

Recommended Posts

I have found a couple of articles about the incident. To be fair, after reading these articles, I am less convinced that Jacobs came on board with an agenda. It wouldn't surprise me, but I have no evidence that is the case. However, Jacobs tends to shade the story a bit in my opinion. In one article [http://www.lohud.com/article/2009907300379]

he says:

In another article [http://www.pressreleasepoint.com/oslo-norway-%E2%80%94-28-july-2009#factsheet] it turns out that those "fellow passengers" just happened to be the registered bidders at the auction. Clearly he was out to disrupt the auction.

In the fervent conviction that there are always at least 2 sides to every story, and in the interest of getting both sides of the story into the record, here is a statement from RCI:

Note RCI says they were responding to a complaint by another passenger, and that they warned him first. I wonder if the President would say RCI acted "stupidly" or if a beer summit could fix the situation.

I apologize if this is somewhere on the thread.

Has anyone seen a photo of Marc Jacobs in any of these articles?

Yes the art auction may be a rip off but why would anyone want to take up "a cause" while on vacation? He couldn't just watch the water or just enjoy the ports? What a waste.

My sentiments, I can see bad mouthing it to everyone who asks, but to actively go out of his way to do so is obviously inviting trouble. Sometimes I go out of my way to look for trouble, but not on an expensive vacation. I wonder if this boot came along with being put on the "do not cruise list"

If I´d been booted off a ship there would be no need to put me on such a list, as I doubt I´d choose that line again, but then I doubt I´d be stupid enough to violate the guest policy like this guy did;)

Man booted from ship in Norway after smuggling liquor and testing positive for swine flu, while in the main dining room wearing flip-flops on formal night:D

That's the spirit!!!

Thanks, Mary. It's not someone I know. (thank goodness!  :))

Ah, Reading. Now I think I know who you are. But I am not Mary, I am Dennis her DH. Say hi to you mom for us. Somewhere I think I have pictures of her doing wheelies [involuntarily] in a wheel chair while we waited to be processed for the 2d half of a B2B on Monarch last year. I'll have to post those sometime.

I happened to catch a rerun last night of cnbc's interesting "cruise inc" show. (The segment about how the cruise lines make their money is available online.) The point was that they discount the staterooms as heavily as they can, to get people on-board. Once they have the bodies in the staterooms, the business model is to make the profit on the on-board enticements: casino, drinks, Park West, jewelry, excursions. The cruise line in the show was NCL, and they also have a contract w Park West.

If the man can afford to spend $73,000.00 on art without even doing his research, I'm guessing the cost of getting kicked off the ship was nothing to him. I'd bet he was planning on it.

Whether or not he was causing a disturbance is irrelavant. Doesn't the cruise contact contain a clause to the effect of "Royal Caribbean reserves the right to deny boarding to anyone.......bla bla bla?" The ship is property of RCCL. If the property owner wants him off, he's off.

Maybe because he was ripped off, that's what crossed my mind.

I don't believe RCL when they say a passenger complained.

The rest of your post is great about a beer summit ROTFLMAO

For the record, the articles report that Jacobs claims he never even bid on anything. The guy who spent 73K is a plaintiff in one of the lawsuits Jacobs found on the internet.

RCI Security first began to have worries about the passenger as he was seen sneaking on board before the posted time for embarkation with personalized towels and claiming a row of seats by the main sports pool and the first row of the ship's theater.

Where does RCL say they can kick you off the boat for voicing your opinion? Doesn't even sound like he was making a scene. Just handing out some flyers.

"Sorry, Why are the lobster tails so small?" "SHUT UP & GET OFF THE SHIP LADY!" :D:D:D

From the Refusal to Transport Policy, I would guess that Number 8 covers what he was doing:

By way of example, and without limitation, the Cruise Line may refuse to book/transport or may remove guest from its vessel in any of the following situations:

1. When the guest’s conduct is disorderly, abusive or violent.

2. When the guest attempts to interfere with any member of the crew of the Vessel in the pursuit of his or her duties, or fails to obey the instruction of any member of the crew.

3. When the guest has a contagious disease that may be transmissible to other guest during the cruise;

4. When the guest’s behavior may be hazardous to himself/herself, the crew, or other guests;

5. When the guest is seriously ill.

6. When the guest’s conduct creates an unreasonable risk of offense or annoyance to other guest.

7. When the guest’s conduct creates a risk of harm or damage to the Cruise Line’s vessel and/or property, or the property of other guest.

8. When the guest attempts to sell or advertise products or services onboard or attempts to or engages in demonstrations, protests or other behavior onboard which, in the Cruise Line’s opinion, is detrimental to the onboard atmosphere, the enjoyment of the cruise by other guest or is contrary to the rights or expectations of concessionaires or vendors onboard or the Cruise Line.

9. Any guest who on a previous cruise with the Cruise Line, or its parent, subsidiaries or affiliates, committed a violation of a Guest Behavior policy that resulted in the early removal of the guest, the denial of boarding for the guest, or other disciplinary measures.

around his neck!

"I spent money on junk"

and used a cup and beg for money versus printing up his own sheets and getting to spend extra time in Norway.

Pity or not, this was not an Einstein moment!!!!!

Have you read the links about the incident?

Mr. Jacob Did not buy anything at the auction. He is in my opinion an honest ethical man that realized that his fellow passengers were being ripped off and came back the next day with some flyers to let people know what was going on. I applaud him. Just as I applaud the many threads on this board about unethical shore excursion operators or Port side jeweler ready to take your money for a bogus diamond.

Whatever, he was still dumb enough to get himslef into a situation to get booted of the ship. Not a smart move IMO.

So much for standing up for what is right and looking out for the other guy! I guess people should only be honorable, if it doesn't interfere with having a good time.

If doing the right thing, regardless of the consequences is DUMB, then I am proud to have served, worked and lived with some really stupid people. Thank God.
