yuki5900 Posted August 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2009 Has anyone ever taken the local SITA bus along the Amalfi Coast? Any info would be appreciated.
H2Otstr Posted August 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2009 We went from Sorrento to Positano by local bus. There were only a couple of locals on the bus. The drivers are like mad men, drive like crazy.

iancal Posted August 5, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 5, 2009 We have, a number of times. In the busy tourist months the buses run every 1/2 hour or so. They stop in Positano, and then go on to Amalfi. When you get on the bus, sit on the right hand side on your way from Sorento. We have never found the bus drivers to be crazy drivers. You might consider taking a boat back from Amalfi to Positano. Nice trip, and you get a good view of the coastline. Last time we went, we stopped in Positano and then went on to Amalfi on another bus. In Sorento, the bus stop is just outside the Circumvesuvia station. You can buy tickets at the newspaper stand on the bottom floor of the station. If you are going during prime tourist times there is usually a line up for the bus and they they tend to come a little more often.
Rare sandinmyshoes Posted August 5, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 5, 2009 We used a private tour co. and were so glad we did! The big tour buses were having a hard time getting stuck on the narrow roads when other drivers were being reckless around them and causing problems. Our small tour van was able to squeeze around the problems and get us on our way. We talked with some people on another tour later on the cruise who had taken a big bus tour and they said most of their time was eaten up stuck in traffic because the bus was just too large to manouver on roads that were designed for horse drawn buggies. Our private tour ended up being about $50E each with a group of 6 total. I met the others on our ship's roll call where I put a post asking people to join us. It was really easy and made the tours so affordable we did one for almost every port. When we go back this Thanksgiving, we will be doing one in every port using this system. Happy planning! The Amalfi region is remarkable!
