6 days of freedom

LUV THE SEA

Recommended Posts

We had the pleasure of sailing aboard Carnival's Freedom...and loved every minute. (7/26-8/1/09). I would have written this sooner but we then headed off to Disney for a few more days).

I had read all of the posts and I had prepared myself for everything...I even had extra water with me to wait in line, just in case...well we landed earlier and arrived at the pier in FLL around 11:45 there was a bit of a line inside but it kept moving...we were sent to the left side line once in the main area and we just whizzed through and were on the ship by 12:20. I don't know if before or after there were computer issues but thankfully for us was not an issue and I just had that extra water for the cruise...which we definitely needed since every day was hot and sunny. WE ate in the Ldo and then our room was ready at 1:30...rested and went to Muster Drill...Yeah we were officially cruising...sail away was cloudy typiical hot FLA summer day ...the only cloudy skies for the rest of vacation.

We loved Key West we walked from the ship to Southernmost point then to the butterfly farm (a block or so away) that was so much fun... then we headed to Truman's annex- cute group of homes that was the naval base...and onto Truman's Summer White House which we throuroughly enjoyed. The tour was wonderful and our guide Audie was very entertaining.

Grand Cayman we went snorkeling and to stingray city with Stingray sailing which I highly recommend. Chip and his crew were so nice...Chip was waiitng for us at the pier...Thewater was choppy but he made sure to take the time for all of us to feed and handle the stingrays... and sailing back on their catamaran was wonderful...best excursion...we went back to the ship but he did drop others off at the beach. He and his crew were great!!!

We did not get off in Jamaica...I had been there and we just wanted to enjoy the ship...which we loved all by ourselves in the hot tub and pool with no one there was heavenly. We just rested and relaxed all day...so I loved Jamaica even though I never left the ship...:D.

Yes, I read about the decor...it's Carnival and but who stares at the walls and to be honest I loved thier artwork ...our cabin was nicely decorated and it was inside off inside hall ...it was GREAT...it was a different shape more square closets to the left of the bed---lots of room I would request this again...no one in the halls very quiet, once in a while we heard an announcement in the casino but no noise on the Upper deck midship

BEST THING OF ALL...John Heald was our cruise director and he was marvelous...he makes everyone feel welcomed and that hew sould go above and beyond for all ...plus he is soooo funny. We liked theBeatles show ---the comedian was good...but John was the funiiest.

We had the second seating with great tablemates, 8 of us all together ( one couple we had met whiile waiitng to board)...I thought when we were on Glory the steak was better in the MDR...but I must say the LOBSTER was moist and was the best...our headwaiter was very quiet...but very good.

FYI...YES we received Carnival Pins for the repeaters party...they had

appetizers.& free drinks at the repeaters .. at the Captains party just free drinks...

Disembarkation went smoothly ...you waited in your cabin until your deck was called...unfortunately we wer the last deck called so we waited for quite a while...fortuantely we were the only ship back in port...so getting our rental car at Dollar I was the first online and on the road to Disney quickly.

Six days went by so fast but we had a fabulous time aboard FREEDOM...thanks to all of you on CC who answered my questions. Thanks to the carnival crew & John Heald...for making it a great vacation. :)

Thanks for the review, I will be on this sailing September 20th. Out of curiousity what was your room number? If I read your post correctly you were above the casino? We are as well and thought I would see where your room was.

Our room numbr was 6297...right in the middle of the ship...it was a great location...we would walk a flight down to the promenade..never had to walk far to anything....one trick always walk the promenade to get to dinner we were in Posh lower...so we would go to deck 5 walk to the end of the ship and then down to 3...

You will love teh Upper deck...unless you are above a lounge I don't know about music noise...can't be of any help there...

Have a great cruise!!!!

Our room is 6345 which is right next to the one that you had... so not a bad location then.

Not sure if your room was next ot ours we were 6297...but we loved the convenience and quiet ...the only thing is our room steward who was wonderful was not in the halls because this is a center hallway he was down the main aisles...but everything was done efficiently. He said he was a room steward for 20 years and never had an inner corridor.

Have a great trip...

That is hard to say... what you may like I may not..but I thought the food overall was just OK except for the 2 formal nights...the good thing is that you can see the menu on the TV screen for that night...other than the Lobster I can't say I loved anythiing...the food wasn't bad just not as good as I remembered on the glory...they have an Indian head chef and I don't think the flavor was that great and the steaks were a bit tough in the MDR. I don't remember the exact menus..I hope this helped a bit.

Can you tell me which night in the mdr had the least desirable

food?

I haven't done any research on this trip yet, so I apologize if this is an uneducated question. What's on Duval Street?

Bars, shopping, restaurants, it's kind of like a way smaller New Orleans. You can walk down the street with your beer or adult beverage of choice. Sloppy Joe's is a pretty popular place to go. We were just there in Feb. with our kids, they really enjoyed themselves. I'm sure it's a totally different place at night, a lot more partying going on.

Duval Street has alot of shops during the day the bars open after 11:30 there is also ice cream snd KEY LIME Pie. Funny but true story we decided just to stroll and we ended up walking to the end of Duval Streeet we found by accident the butterfly farm and the Southernmost point..it ended up beng about 2 miles...but it was such a pretty walk and stopping along the way didn't seem like such a long walk...we had a great day...then walking back I had key lime soda and key lime pie (well we were in Key West afterall)...I liked the soda more :D...we then had our second wind and we went to truman's annex and truman's white house and took the tour...so much fun ...all because we wanted to just stroll duval street....:D
