barnowl1950 Posted August 13, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2009 I've noticed someone said the vibration on Celebration deck 6, furthest forward is horrendous, do others who have stayed in cabins in this area agree with this? I don't really want to change as i asked for a quiet room and the T.A. told me that a few cabins here are the quietest as they are sound-proofed for being above the cinema. I do want the promeade deck. Now i'm a bit worried.
merciaman Posted August 13, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2009 I cant vouch for deck 6 but the vibration is worst at the stern end by the Lido bar. We were on deck 2 just forward of midships so by the sound of it not quite as far forward as you and it was not as bad as we were expecting.I would think 4 decks higher and further forward you will be fine.:D
jenny wren Posted August 13, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2009 We have been in 223 on deck 6 and didn't have any vibration noise....we did notice it in the restaurant though!!

sunbather11 Posted August 14, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2009 We were on deck 7 no problem there the only place i found any vibration was when we were sunbathing on the back of the ship on deck 6.
WoolyBully Posted August 15, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2009 We were on deck 7 also and the ship does vibrate a little bit but after the first day you get used to it!
MrMojoRisin Posted August 15, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 15, 2009 The vibration is there, but not at all severe. You get used to it and it certainly hasn't been of any concern to us or caused any problem. On our last cruise we had a cabin on Deck 9 and we slept like logs. barnowl1950 Posted August 15, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted August 15, 2009 Thanks so much all of you, we're new to cruising and feel better now.:o
RedmondCruiser Posted August 22, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2009 The vibrations date back to the original design of the Niew Amsterdam (1983) and the Noordam (1984). they were both designed with the oil crisis in mind and they were outfitted with slow turning Salzer diesel engines. They can burn literally anything from tar to Johnny Walker, but the trade off was vibrations. We did nine cruises on the old Noordam and after a while you don't even notice it. Just ignore it and have a great cruise.
barnowl1950 Posted August 23, 2009 Author #10 Share Posted August 23, 2009 Thanks Redmond Cruiser, others will find it interesting to know the real reason for this. Hubby is wondering if you had a hand in the building or design? :)
craftycruisers Posted August 25, 2009 #11 Share Posted August 25, 2009 We were on deck 9 and when the ship is sailing you hardly get any vibration - we slept like logs for 2 weeks. When in dock you do notice everyone's fat wobbling away! You get used to it and it would not stop me sailing on the Celebration again.:)
barnowl1950 Posted August 26, 2009 Author #12 Share Posted August 26, 2009 Thanks craftycruisers for the comments, and now you've put it like that i'll do my best to tone up a bit. Must say i like people with a good sense of humour!
