Cagney's for lunch...for a fee?

Another test--just sent my email off to K. Sheehan--I sure hope this is not the case on the 16 day cruise I have coming up.

I received a VIP letter and I was on the VIP list. I was not taking away from anyone else's perks, exclusive rights, or enjoyment.

We just got off the Spirit today. Cagney's lunch was offered to all passenger's for half-off the cover charge or 12.50.

I know the Spirit's Cagney's is different than most other NCL ships. But, did they open up a separate section of Cagney's for the "paying" customers or did they seat them with the rest of the suit passengers?

PE, I am pretty sure you have been on the Spirit at least once. I do not think that Cagney's on the Spirit is as large as it is on the Dawn. I have been in both. The main area was open, there are some side rooms but they appeared un-occupied during lunch. There may have been 4-5 tables occupied on the day that I had lunch there. The customers all looked the same. I could not tell who had the perk or who way paying.:)

There are only 20 suites on the Spirit, 2 AA's, 5, AB's, 10 AC's, and 3 AD's. All with the max occupancy of 2-3 passengers (there are no quad suites on the Spririt). Maybe they think that the numbers are so low between guests and VIP's that it is a good money maker to offer this? I know that the other ships like like the Dawn, Star, Jewel, Pearl, Gem, and Jade all have many more suites.

Just received an email back from Andy Stuart who said this was a three week test ==and it is over -- so this would be on my cruise.

Thanks for the update. It clearly was not being utilized on the lunch that I was at. Maybe they thought it is better to just keep this as a Suite/VIP perk.

I forgot to say that it was a very good lunch.:D

The Spirit still has Teppanayki and Sushi as speciality restaurant options for lunch. It was offered on last week's sailings.

Does the VIP guests include CAS VIP'S. I was given a free cruise from my land casino and booked through CAS. NCL said I was to board at the CAS VIP line. I was told that I do get extra perks but was not aware that Cagney's was one of them.

That generally means you are a VIP in the casino, which will mean you will have a card waiting in your room that gives you free beverages while in the casino, alcoholic or non-alcoholic.

Right. Dreadful to have to mix with the great unwashed.

I just hate when they try to make eye contact with you in the hallways, rather than stopping and bowing their heads as you pass. Thank goodness the Butler takes names as we pass those that do not pass so he can give it to the Concierge to give it to security to have those people put in the brig.

I always thought the daily breakfast in Cagney's was a pseudo benefit as it's not advertised as one of the suite benefits. While they list VIP invitations to Breakfast, Lunch and Cocktail parties, I never considered the daily offering of these things an advertised benefit. You don't expect a daily cocktail party do you? In addition, VIP does not mean it will be exclusive to only suite guests.

Regardless, I totally understand the desire to keep this a suite only benefit. I would want the same thing when I was in a suite.

However, I just wanted to clarify what was happening on ship b/c if they were offering it for a fee, I would take advantage.

Thanks for all the responses...

C.

Cagneys is not specifically mentioned, but they would just have to come up with some other area as it is advertised special breakfasts and luncheons:

subhead_Extras.png

  • Invitation to VIP breakfasts, luncheons and cocktail parties*
  • New mattresses from the Bliss Collection by NCL™
  • 24-hour room service with special suite menu
  • Full in-room breakfast menu
  • Suite treats delivered right to your door each night*
  • Fine linens, feather duvet and pillow menu*
  • Plush bath robes, slippers and towels
  • Fresh flower arrangement
  • Access to concierge lounge

Question for BG,

when you got that email back I don't suppose they told you the results of their test? You or we could still see it happen in the not too distant future.

Hopefully they caught flack from the suite guests sufficient to rethink this latest nickle and dime scheme.

I don't know the results of the experiment, but we were on the 9/4/09 sailing of the Spirit. Cagney's was not open for lunch for a fee. Back to suite and VIP passengers only.

I have to admit that I think it should remain that way.

As we are passengers who usually book a suite I hope this was only a test---because I would not be for it on a permanent basis--I look forward to exclusiveness of breakfast and lunch at Cagney's when we are in a suite.

To add more patrons at lunch in my opinion definitely detracts from this suite perk-- I will be on the Spirit in October for 16 days and will definitely have a chat with the Hotel Director about this.

Thank you so much for the post... you took the words out of my mouth, we too book suites for the exclusive perks.

NCL I hope that you are listening, please, please do not dilute the suite perks.

Bjg Green, please let us know how the chat goes with the HD. Have a great cruise.

My opinion on NCL and what they might consider for cagneys for lunch and breakfast.

If its not full. Sell it for $15 a person.

Even if they only get 10 more people in. thats $150 for what might cost them $25 to make.

Money on the bottom line.

Cagneys for breakfast & lunch is one of the biggest perks for suite guests. It is not possible to predict in advance how many of the suite guests will dine for breakfast or lunch each day so how shall NCL staff decide in advance to sell meals to non suite guests? Also, suites sell for quite abit more. I will not be happy if non suite guests can pay extra money to get a perk that is supposed to be exclusive.

So how would you identify what type of stateroom the people sitting next to you booked and how would this distract from your dining experience?

Seriously

Hmm...this all makes me wonder: Are suite passengers guarenteed a "quick seating" or a "free seating"? Is there any stipulation on this?

I certainly do not want to see suite passengers lose any perks....but if the cruise line wants to find more ways to make a profit to keep our fares low and reasonable....then I say "suite passengers" will have to suck it up and compromise...you are getting these restaurants for "free" what more do you want? Not only that....but you have the option of having your "butler" deliver these menus to your cabin...so if you can't get a table then you can still have it delivered to your room...."nice perk".

Given the cost of suites, its hardly "for free". It's a perk that's paid for, and, IMO, far more than simply the small fee you suggest. Not to mention the exclusive use. Frankly, most suite passengers are willing to pay the extra cost for their suites and aren't worried about ways to keep fares "low and reasonable", so there's nothing to suck up and compromise.
