Cagney's for lunch...for a fee?

Hey all,

There was some discussion in the Jade thread (courtyard fiasco) about NCL opening Cagney's at lunch for a fee. Has this happened or is it just speculation? We're on the Jade this September in Europe and would love to do Cagney's for lunch, however we couldn't spring for a suite. Would love the option to pay $15 for a nice steak lunch...

Anyone know?

When we were on the Spirit in July, they were offering Cagney's for lunch for a fee (I believe it was $15). They also had "al fresco" dining on the deck outside Cagney's while in port for breakfast and lunch. We didn't partake, but I thought it was a great idea.

This varies from ship to ship, and is decided by the HD or F & B director, I believe. Sean and Bernhard were very forward thinking kind of guys, and were experimenting with many different ideas on the Spirit, including extra fee Shrimp, Oysters on a half shell, and crab legs in Henry's or the Shanghai bar (this was AWESOME, by the way!). They also had their "enchanted evening" dinner -- a first on NCL, and only available on the Spirit.

As we are passengers who usually book a suite I hope this was only a test---because I would not be for it on a permanent basis--I look forward to exclusiveness of breakfast and lunch at Cagney's when we are in a suite.

To add more patrons at lunch in my opinion definitely detracts from this suite perk-- I will be on the Spirit in October for 16 days and will definitely have a chat with the Hotel Director about this.

My opinion on NCL and what they might consider for cagneys for lunch and breakfast.

If its not full. Sell it for $15 a person.

Even if they only get 10 more people in. thats $150 for what might cost them $25 to make.

Money on the bottom line.

I'm with you BG. In fact, not only will I mention how I feel about this to them when we take our cruise this Nov, I'm sending a letter and an email today to the office of the president today to let them know this is one suite perk we enjoy the most and if it becomes dilluted, so will the business we give NCL.

Well, suite passengers (and designated NCL VIPs) aren't required to make reservations for breakfast and lunch in Cagney's. So how do you determine "it's not full"? It might not be full at 7:45 am, but then 40 suite passengers might decide to come dine at 8:15 am. Absolutely not fair if they have to wait because NCL decided to try to make a bit of extra money. One of the perks is not having to make reservations and not having to wait in long lines.

You know, if they staffed it right and used the main Cagney's dining room (not the small one used for suites/VIPs), then it might work. The only real issue I can see would again be long waits for suite/VIP passengers who have generally paid for or otherwise "earned" the perks, including not having to wait while 75 other passengers are served in the main Cagney's dining room at breakfast and lunch.

They need to leave it alone. A calm and peaceful Cagney's is what we pay for a suite for... The last time one of the suits said "underutilized" it came back to bite them.

I always thought the daily breakfast in Cagney's was a pseudo benefit as it's not advertised as one of the suite benefits. While they list VIP invitations to Breakfast, Lunch and Cocktail parties, I never considered the daily offering of these things an advertised benefit. You don't expect a daily cocktail party do you? In addition, VIP does not mean it will be exclusive to only suite guests.

Regardless, I totally understand the desire to keep this a suite only benefit. I would want the same thing when I was in a suite.

However, I just wanted to clarify what was happening on ship b/c if they were offering it for a fee, I would take advantage.

Thanks for all the responses...

As far as I know, Cagney's is only open for lunch (free) but only to suite and VIP guests.

Does the VIP guests include CAS VIP'S. I was given a free cruise from my land casino and booked through CAS. NCL said I was to board at the CAS VIP line. I was told that I do get extra perks but was not aware that Cagney's was one of them.

Actually that brings up an interesting question...Who are the VIPs?

That varies immensely. You would assume that friends and family of crew members would get this treatment. Cynthia & I have received VIP treatment on our last 5 cruises which has to do with sailing with Karan or Anshuman for all of these sailings. :D

There will be a list at Cagney's with the host or hostess for breakfast and lunch so you can check there or with the concierge. I wouldn't think CAS VIPs would be the same, but check to be sure.

We just got off the Spirit today. Cagney's lunch was offered to all passenger's for half-off the cover charge or 12.50.

It was not crowded on the afternoon that we had lunch there. We also had breakfast there almost every morning and it was very quiet then. I love starting the day with breakfast at Cagney's and the french press coffee.

Another test--just sent my email off to K. Sheehan--I sure hope this is not the case on the 16 day cruise I have coming up.
