Cocierge Escort Dawn

I believe I read that one of the perks of a suite / mini suite was a concierge escort to your room. What exactly does that mean? I don't think they are going to walk everyone with a suite/mini suite to their rooms?

The "Concierge Escort" means that you are escorted to a VIP lounge after registering (or to register) and then when the ship is ready for boarding you will be escorted onboard by either a Butler or the Concierge. This escort usually happens before all of the other passengers.

This is strictly for Suite passengers and other VIP's. This does NOT include mini suites.

No.. you are not reading it wrong, the person who wrote it is wrong. Mini suites and balcony staterooms do have priority boarding, I believe, but not an escorted boarding.

PE will you be in a suite on the Dawn cruise this Nov? Just asking so I know if we might get to meet in the VIP lounge. 8-)

No, we will not be in a suite. But, we might meet you in the VIP lounge as I am sure we will be invited there. The reason I say might, is that my wife and I are trying to figure out how to dump our carry on bags and go over to the Intrepid Museum before boarding the ship.

That's fine I'll take the priority boarding. Don't really need someone to walk me to my room. But the person who posted the reply is " NCL Staff", so does that not make it policy?

You are not reading it wrong, except for the fact you assumed the escort was by a concierge. This NCL answer is not correct, and seems to be outdated. The list of perqs is not necessarily unique to a minisuite.

The escort to the cabin was supposed to be a perq for all passengers, as part of NCL's revision of Freestyle cruising - Version 2.0, which was implemented a little over a year ago.

This escort program never got implemented and it was not a well thought-out idea to begin with; it would be logistically impossible for the crew to escort every boarding passenger to his/her cabin, and more importantly, the cabins are not ready when the bulk of passengers board. Not only do they not escort you, they actively discourage you from even venturing to your cabin on your own before cabins are "ready", which generally happens around 1:30 - 2 pm for 4:00 pm departures.

So, do not wait for an escort since none will be forthcoming. The minisuites are better thought of as "deluxe balcony" cabins rather than "suites". The perqs you will get are the same as they are for a balcony cabin.

Sorry, I don't believe you will get priority embarkation either. Like I said that is for suite passengers and other VIP's. When you check in you will be seated with all of the other passengers and board in the order that were seated after registration.

Looking forward to meeting you one way or the other. I am sure we will at the M&G if nothing else. Seems like there will be a lot of good CC'ers there. And I am going to keep my fingers crossed you will get invited to the VIP lounge. I kind of thought you were known in the NCL Concierge circles.. 8-)

I thought you said you were in a suite, or am I mistaken.

As for being known in the Concierge circles, you could say that. We have met a number of them in lower level positions and have watch them grow in their careers. Plus we are a fairly high Platinum Latitudes and get pretty decent treatment from the HD's.

Yeah.. we are .. we are in an AE... That's why I was hoping you were going to be in the VIP lounge so we could meet ahead of time.. rather than just at the M&G. 8-)

I thought if you were in a full suite, you got escorted to your stateroom even if they aren't ready. I thought I read where the suite will be ready even if the rest aren't. Am I mistaken?

You are partially correct. We have almost always been escorted directly to our suite with two exceptions. One we got seperated from our Butler as he was escorting us to our suite and so we did not get to go back until they announced all clear for every one, and then on the Pearl this past Oct our Butler escorted us to Cagneys for lunch as the suite was not ready for us to enter yet. In general I do believe if it is possible they do try to have the suites ready first just so the Butlers can escort you to the suite.

Hmm...I could swear that we got "priority" boarding on our last cruise in 2005 on Dawn in NYC....having booked a mini suite. They sent us to a special location upstairs to wait in a seated area.......now could this have been a "latitude members" perk and I am just not remembering the whole thing correctly? Hmm!

Your memory of 2005 is right but they have changed it in the past year.

So you are saying it is no longer a "mini suite perk"??? Can't imagine why they would change this since it is not exactly a huge perk and not really costing NCL a lot money to provide it. I mean they are charging a nice chunk of change between a balcony and a mini suite and I think they should be offering more than just a few extra square feet of cabin space. JMO of course.

You will never see the term "mini suite" on another ship unless they bring back more perks. They are now called Delux balcony cabins starting with the Epic/Bliss.

Good...that's what they should have been called in the first place. That said...regardless of what they call them.....the price difference calls for more than extra square footage don't cha think?

Even the most loyal of us NCL "cheerleaders" have complained for years about NCL calling them a "mini" suite. We have said for a long time they should be called deluxe balcony cabins. It seems like with the Epic that NCL finally started listening. Now if we could get them to go and change it on all of their ships. It has always been so heart breaking when someone would get back from a cruise and come on here and post that they had expected the suite perks and found out onboard that mini's did not get them.

What I can't figure out is why is an AE on the Sun (one of my favorite ships) not considered a full suite when that category is on every other ship. I realize there is no AF on the Sun, but NCL should be consistent on the category perks since that further confuses people when they sail on the Sun and expect what they have gotten on other ships AE categories.

I have to say that it sometimes gets confusing what the perks are. Last year we were in just a regular balcony--we received a bottle of champagne in the room and also notification of a special breakfast restaurant just for balcony folks--this was on the Boston Bermuda cruise. It's unclear about priority boarding, all I remember is that we just walked right on--it took less than 5 minutes--no kidding. So I don't how priority could have beat that! Anyway, it wasn't expected and all made for an even better trip. But nowhere have I read that those perks existed. I am a Latitudes, but not a high level, so it had nothing to do with that--and I do not use a TA, so that couldn't factor in. It's nice when nice things happen. But I would not go with that expectation if I were sailing this year.

We had AD suite last year and our "escort" was not the concierge or our butler, but some other crew man who could not find our suite. I had to direct him. No one mentioned Cagney's for lunch, but I knew so we went there. It was great. The butler only gave us the continental room service menu, so we didn't know we could get a full breakfast or order room service from the dining room menues. The concierge never mentioned priority tenders or reserved seating in the theatre. In fact, we never saw her.I learned about all of the above from CC after we returned. We are going on NCL next year, but this time we just booked a balcony. It's another port intensive cruise and the perks just aren't worth it if you get a poor concierge and/or butler.
