Does Carnival ever offer reduced deposits?

One thing I really like about Princess is the Future Cruise Credit. You pay $100 for each and then that becomes your deposit for a future cruise when you are ready to book it. Plus you get some OBC for using one. We bought two when we were on the Sapphire in Nov.

Carnival has something like that on a few ships but it's not fleetwide. I'm also not sure if it can be used for the deposit like on Princess. I really wish Carnival would implement the same program as Princess.

This is not correct information to give people. You are not giving all the details of your cruise. It sounds like you booked with a TA and as part of a group. The only way to get a lower deposit is if you're part of a group reservation. You may not even know you are booked as part of a group but you are.

Anyone calling to book 5 cabins will think they are entitled to $50 pp deposit and this is simply not true.

What I said to the OP was if she could book at least 5 cabins then they could receive the reduced deposit. We are a group with five cabins, we received a group rate with 100 OBC which beat the ES rate by $30. I was just trying to give the OP another option for a reduced deposit. I apologize if that was misinformation.

She was not wrong. Her point simply was that if you could book 5 rooms or more you could get a discounted deposit, and she is correct. If you call Carnival direct, tell them you are looking to book 5 or more rooms, they will suggest it as a group booking, even though it is just you and some family. This happened to me, I simply was booking rooms for family that was going with us, did not look at us as a group, we are family after all. The reason I was doing it was because I am the one that normally does it for our immediate family and so the others asked if I would do it. By the way, we all were on a conference call so that the PVP could get credit card info.

I, too, wanted to book a vacation and I am always impulsive.. so we picked one and I thought I could just put down a small deposit... Well they wanted 500 and I couldn't afford it that day (or week) So I called Carnival and the PVP suggested booking as a single (250) and adding my daughter later... now I am no expert and I forgot to add her until AFTER I paid in full and paid an extra 60 bucks but didn't really complain so I am unsure exactly why... :/ I can't give you any more specifics because I can't say what they will do in your case but call them.. I am sure they would work with you to get your business... incidentally we leave in 18 days...:D good luck!!!

Yes those come in handy when you see a cruise you like. Doesn't cost you anything out of pocket when you want to book.

We leave on September 12th for an Alaskan cruise on the Diamond Princess. We paid $349pp plus we have $150 in OBC.

Old policy. You didn't book with a PVP. They could see you as a group but you were not a group (8 or more rooms) NOWADAYS if you book like a group direct you are required full deposit.

IMHO if you can't afford the deposit you can't afford the cruise.

Awesome ... wish I could go too. I recently cancelled my only next cruise credit with Princess and got back my $100. Just no chance I can squeeze in yet one more cruise in time to use it..too booked up... but that sure sounds like one awesome deal.

Actually, that is not an old policy. I called this summer with five cabins and was booked as a group and was able to get a reduced deposit of 50 dollars per person. Since the deposit was so low, several more people have joined the group. The eight cabins only affects the elimination of a cruise fare. I really think your tone when you reply is a little rude. We're all just trying to help each other here.

Okay since I've gotten soooo many e-mails here goes.

Just book as a SINGLE to hold the cabin, your only doing the one deposit and can then add the other(s) later when you have the deposit money available to do so.

You do have to ask to do it this way. Carnival will not offer it, but it can (and I have done, even for my next 2 cruises) be done.

I know if you book with a CC group, you can get reduced deposit, but I'm under the assumption you can't book a specific state room. Maybe I'm wrong.

Princess is having an awesome sale right now where our family of 3 can book a cruise for 2011 and only put down $200, total, not pp. The only problem is that the cruise is $1000 more than a comparable one on Carnival. Just wondering, if in the past, Carnival has ever had reduced deposit specials???

I would love to get another one in the works. I like to have a lot to look forward to!!;)

Thanks

I have to admit, I've never really understood the deposit issue. You end up having to pay whatever the full rate is eventually. That said, as a direct answer to your question, I have seen sales and other programs (such as booking while on another cruise) that do end up with reduced deposits.

That said, I prefer to pay the full deposit. It is just that much less that I will owe later.

Will they book you as a single in a cabin for 5? Will the other 4 pax get the same rate as the single? Even if the rate went up by the time you add the others? I want to book 5 on the Triumph for Mar but wow, $1250 dep is alot now.

For me it is about the time involved. Carnival will have had $800 from me for over two years by the time we sail on our cruise next April. Same for our cruises next Nov. $900 for over a year. Wish I wasn't giving them that much for so long. But having said that, I'm still doing it...so not much incentive for them to change! :o

Wow, this thread was buried and today I checked the board and it was revived!! Anyway, as you can see from my ticker, I've booked a Norwegian cruise for only $200 total deposit for 3 of us. And I did get one of the larger aft rooms on deck 5 of the Dawn. I think that will be it for me for a while, unless I can find another short-inexpensive cruise to do maybe the later part of 2011.
Thanks for all of your help and advice.

Just curious, if you do book 1 person on Carnival and add another person later on, is the price the same as when you originally booked the first person?? Or do you pay the current going price for the cruise??
Thanks

LornaT-I did email your PVP, never heard back from her.:(

DTC - When did you send?, she doesn't work on Tuesday's and I'm not sure about her other days off. Plus she's now a Reservations Specialist and as long as there are calls coming in or on hold/backed up she can't reply or calluntil the incoming count gets to zero.

With interest rates the way they are, Carnival will earn less than $20 in interest on your deposit. Besides, you don't have to sign up now, you can wait. The only reason to sign up early is to get a specific cabin that you want.

I emailed her right after receiving the email from you. My PVP had offered the only booking one person and then adding another later. Would the 2nd person get the same price as the first?? Or the going rate at the time of adding them on??

I did want a specific cabin. Another reason to book early is to lock in the current early saver rate.
