This is only the first step in reclaiming the former colonies. Now that the US is turning Socialist, the true believers think it is time for us to regain our subservient relationship.

First T&C, then Bermuda, can Staten Island be next.

Remember you saw it here first.

I think that Topsham and Jollyjones are only saying Bermuda next as wishful thinking(Me too) but TCI and Bermuda are dependant territories and the last time I read it Staten Island was not!!Maybe you were being funny ;)

I think you missed the irony......

I for one don't think countries regret their independence from England.

You must be getting different information from us. Ask the people rather than the corrupt leaders what they want and I think you will discover a greater truth. Countries like India, Pakistan, Zimbabwe have really progressed since we packed up and left haven't they? A recent radio phone in programme in Jamaica to promote the creation of a republic there received phone in calls all of which prsied the idea of returning to British rule.

The former colonies have, broadly, all joined the British Commonwealth to retain links to Britain for various reasons, mostly to do with democracy, enduring peace, liberty, human rights, fair trade and equality. The 53 members are home to two billion citizens of all faiths and ethnicities – over half of whom are 25 or under. Member countries span six continents and oceans from Africa (18) to Asia (8), the Americas (2), the Caribbean (12), Europe (3) and the South Pacific (10). Rwanda, Sudan, Algeria, Madascar and Yemen have all applied to join. Mozambique applied, successfully, to join even though there was no previous link to Britain.

Clearly, Britain must be doing something right. Some collections of states and people can only wish for something similar.

The USA did not become independent from Britain, I believe it was only the 13 colonies of Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina and Rhode Island.

The 13 colonies declared independence from Britain as the United States of America in 1776. Most of those who had regrets fled back to Britain or north to Canada after they were defeated in the revolutionary war which ended in 1787. I have not met anyone with any regrets about independence from England here.

I would not presume that there are not people in other countries that became independent from England who regret it.

Also my comment should not be construed as an opinion on the situation of Turks and Caicos.
