tigre8664 Posted December 30, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2004 I have not taken an excursion to JVD, but having owned and cruised a sailboat in the area for a number of years, I know the island pretty well. JVD is quite undeveloped. At the southwestern end of the island, the main harbor has Foxy's - a world renowned beach bar, a few other restarurant/bars, government offices and some small stores. The bakery makes a coconut bread that is phenomenal. There are usually quite a few boats in the anchorage since it is a port of entry for the BVI (in other words, a lot of heads being pumped - not so good for swimming). White Bay is just around the point to the west and has a beautiful beach with very little development. The snorkeling is not that great compared to other areas. Just past the east end of JVD is Green Cay - a picture perfect jewel of an island. Good snorkeling on the reef.

Mtreas99 Posted January 11, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 11, 2005 We are sailing on the Serenade of the Seas which docks at 7:00am. Will we ba able to make it to Red Hook for an 8:00am charter to Jost Van Dyke? The charter returns to Red Hook at 4:00pm -- that should be fine for a 5:30 sail away on the Serenade. Would love to hear from someone who has done this while visiting St Thomas on a cruise ship.
The Islander Posted January 25, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 25, 2005 Hello Mtreas99, 8am charter is close.... If you can get off the ship and in a taxi heading to Red Hook by 7:25am you should be ok. In low-moderate traffic the drive is 17-20 minutes, 15 minutes extra in case of a little traffic and to find your way to the actual boat or meeting place once in Red Hook. Make sure the taxi driver knows you need to go because they typically will wait until their van fills up with others going the same way. --Islander *****
