Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. In 2016, we were in Buenos Aires awaiting the Crown Princess which was coming from Rio de Janeiro. A medical emergency caused the ship to divert to another Brazilian Port because it was urgent. It put the ship a day behind and we had to skip the Falkland Islands stop. Princess provided a 5-star hotel and meals while we waited. A large group from Great Britain were furious because that was to be the highlight of their trip. We heard a number of them crowing about how the Falklands War was proof that GB was still a great empire and that the ship should not have diverted. They kept having daily meetings at which they whipped up anger towards Princess. First, Princess agreed to return 1 day's fare, and later announced that we would all receive half of our fare back. Of course, we were ecstatic since we had only lost one day out of 12 and loved the trip around the Horn to Chile. Later we were told that the ill passenger had died at the hospital. Instead of empathy for his family, several British passengers stated loudly that this was proof that the ship should have kept going, since they were inconvenienced for nothing. Rough crowd! These retired British veterans and spouses stormed around the ship in a constant state of fury. Before we reached Valparaiso, the Captain announced that we would get all of our fare back, half in cash and half in future cruise credit. This was still not enough to mollify them, while we were amazed at our good fortune! In their minds, Princess was wrong for trying to save a man's life. We disagreed! The following year, we cruised around the Baltic Sea aboard the Regal Princess which was new. Another great trip, this time courtesy of Princess. 👌 It was my 3rd time to Russia, and some of the other countries, but first time to Finland and Estonia. A few months ago, we visited Iceland, and the British Isles on the Island Princess. Sometimes things go wrong, but we can't wait for our next 3 Princess cruises! When life gives you lemons, you can fling the acid on others, or add vodka and enjoy, your choice!
  2. In my case the cruise is in September. That is why I posted about it.
  3. Based upon your writings here, it seems unlikely that you would have enjoyed this cruise even if everything went as planned. Leisure travel isn't for people who fall apart when things go wrong. It is something that most of us accept, even if we don't like it.
  4. I print a hard copy of my airline tickets, hotel reservations, tour bookings, car rentals, etc. I also write notes about places to visit, maps, and more, and have a file for each future cruise, which I store in gallon-size Ziploc bags. Each topic has a stick-on file tab, in order of use. No, they won't zip shut but they are a perfect size for printer paper. They lay flat and I can see the itinerary through the bag. They also fit in the front compartment of my carryon bag. 👌 This helps compensate for my fading short-term memory. ðŸĪŠ Note: I also carry photocopies of my passport/credit cards/Dr. license, etc.
  5. I had forgotten about Spanada, a crummy excuse for sangria. It ranked right down there with Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill, and Annie Green Springs wine. Always followed by a barf chaser, LOL! O.K. Boomer, anyone here remember Sloe Gin, Jungle Juice, or trashcan punch? Only the strong survived! ðŸĪĢ Now we are Princess cruisers! Welcome back Cine Graphic!
  6. Hopefully the lesson you learned was not to blame EZ Air for actions taken by airlines. Each time I use EZ Air domestically, the price is slightly higher than a nonrefundable ticket booked directly with an airline, but cheaper than a refundable ticket. EZ air allows no-penalty cancellations until 45 days from your flight. For international flights there is typically no comparison. EZ Air will be the cheapest. If prices go down, you can cancel and rebook or switch airlines with no penalty.👌 The only times I don't use EZ Air is when I can pay with points.
  7. I'm taking two of my grandsons on the Majestic Princess to Alaska in September. I hope for their sake that there are other young adults aboard. At least enough for a basketball game on sea days and maybe some friendly gals. 😉 They are 18 and 24 years old.
  8. I would have known when I checked my account (daily).
  9. Oops! I meant to say Majestic. Emerald is my June cruise to from Florida to Canada. Majestic is my September Alaska cruise.
  10. This thread brought out my inner engineer and got me thinking about possible solutions. A cardboard box about the size of a hardbound book with one side cut out to slip over the lamp base would work. Or perhaps an oblong shoebox-shaped plastic container (Tupperware-type) with one side cut out. Tape it in place. Lots of possibilities! ðŸĪž
  11. I agree with you, but often just use hand sanitizer when I sit down to eat. I also carry thin disposable gloves, but found they are not worth the hassle since I typically go back for something.
  12. Cardboard or even a Styrofoam scrap would be lightweight and strong enough to support a CPAP machine. It could be stacked to the right thickness and trimmed on the spot with a knife or hacksaw blade. Tape it to the nightstand with painter's blue tape. Attach the hose to the lamp with a loop of tape to ensure that it stays in place. 👌 For a square-based lamp like the one shown, a paperback book or two from the ship library, taped to the nightstand should do the trick. Most ships have round lamp bases.
  13. The Island was like a morgue after midnight. A few employees running vacuum cleaners, etc.
  14. At the counter where they dish soft-serve ice cream and make those disgusting premium sundaes, by the covered pool. They always offered a choice. I didn't have a package, but I did have $850 in OBC, and I would have paid but they didn't ask.
  15. 1. There may be a "name-change" fee. Check first before giving your uncooperative TA any more money. 2. Find a new TA. Will the lost $150 pound pp fee go to Princess or does the TA get to keep it?
