purchased OBC

Just a small correction. If your unused OBC is refunded it is to the credit card you registered at check-in and not the one used to purchase the OBC although, of course, these may be one and the same.

The refund is processed by the ship which does not hold details of the credit card used for pre-cruise purchases.

so if you have a cash account onboard they would give you the left over obr as cash ???

We did this last year when we wanted the dollars at the end of our cruise for our stay in Hawaii. We had pre-purchased OBR at a good rate prior to the cruise.

We went to Guest Relations on the evening before disembarkation and changed our account to cash. We were then able to withdraw our leftover dollars. You might get asked if you really want to do this - and yes we did!

It is not actually necessary to ask them to convert your account. They should refund in cash if you ask even if you have registered a credit card.

Even with a foreign credit card? Sometimes that gives us Euros an hassle.. :)

If you note, I am from the UK not the USA. Cash will always be given in US dollars. With a non-US$ credit card, you have to decide what is better for you: to have the refund in cash (US$), in US dollars to your credit card or in the currency of your card to your credit card. The second and third options depend on the option you selected on your Xpress pass at check-in.

All currency exchange is a hassle, you just have to decide what works best for you.

Yes, unless you chose different when checking in, the amount will be credited in US$ and converted by your card company - of course charging a conversion fee in most cases.

Should you have chosen to have Celebrity do the conversion of your account and charge you in EUR (which I would never do) you will be refunded in $ which will then be converted to EUR by Celebrity - using a conversion rate favorable for them plus fees.

So if you are from a non US$ area taking cash is most likely the better option

Thanks all. Having some OBC from the 123Go promo (plus prepaid grats, bev package, etc etc) and some OBC from our TA and normally having a to pay any outstanding balance we never thought about how it would work the other way. :)

And agreeing on the big no to the cruise line's conversion program offer, are people actually using that and why would they? :)

Beware, here´s the catch!!!

The OBC from the promo and most of the TA OBCs are NON-Refundable - showing as OBN.

Non-refundable OBC has to be used for excursions, shopping, specialty dining, gambling... otherwise it is lost!

Here we were talking about purchsed OBC which is refundable (OBR)!

We also have a small amount of purchased OBC, meant as a birthday gift. That will be deducted as very last from all expenses made with the OBC if I understand? Thanks. :)

edit; we are going to spend it all btw, now on which deck was that Apple shop..? ;)

Correct - OBN first then OBR.

Apple sounds like a plan ;-)
