Local currency in Jordan, Oman and UAE or US $$$ is OK

We'll be in Jordan, Oman and UAE in November.

Do we need to go through that hassle and absolutely get the local currency (Jordanian Dinar, Omani Rial, UAE dirham) for each country or do they take US$ at the local markets/taxi?

If you don't mind very high exchange rates that merchants "charge," no need to get local currency. However, if you use a no-fee ATM, it is very easy to get local currency with market rates.

Agree with notjaded, get some cash out of the ATM's which are everywhere in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Some places in Oman will accept AED but good to have rials. If you will visit Dubai before Jordan and want to have a little cash on hand before arriving, there are several exchange places in Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, along the main streets etc.

CC are widely accepted in stores, restaurants, and hotels. Don't forget to notify you CC company that you will be traveling. It is always good to have a little cash to pay for small purchases like coffee, taxis, or if shopping in the souks....though the larger vendors accept cc as well. Enjoy your trip!

For UAE -- AED is a must - would not consider using USD

Oman - we had trouble using USD. We had lunch in the Salalah mall from a tour and we all had issues.

Jordan -- if you go to Petra and Aqaba -- USD are OK. Most vendors and guides will take USD. I had Dinar I wanted to get rid of - so I used them. Rate in USD was not bad,

I have just got a Revolut card which should give me near bank rate on ATM withdrawals and purchases. It's a pre-paid MasterCard. It's an app for smartphone plus physical card. Ken
