Need some clarifications...

I have the UBP, if I order a drink that costs $15 do I still get charged 18% gratuity or is it included in the $15? Is the gratuity included in all the drinks or do they charge you separately on all drinks?

Does anyone have experience with Uber at Port Canaveral to Cocoa Beach? I'm getting an fare estimate of $19-$24 and for 4 people, that would be a savings.

I thought I had seen a post that there is prime viewing in the thermal spa for departures from NY? I'd much rather be warm and comfortable than outside in the cold Nov.air. Anyone experience this?

I have 14 days to go, I'm just bubbling inside!

You're going to love the Breakaway - she's a fabulous ship!

I get the UBP all the time, but never paid attention to the gratuity associated with my drink-ordering lol....it's not that big a deal. You've already paid the gratuity when you bought the package, so it's a non-entity ;).

Leaving NY you should be up on deck until the ship passes under the Verazanno Bridge....there's nothing like it! It's just not the same being inside :o:p...if it's really really cold just be sure to wear a jacket!

Have a fabulous cruise!

tou have paid all of your gratuity up front. If you order a drink over $15, you pay the difference in price plus 18% on the difference only. But you can always toss in a $1 to the bartender or waiter if you want. It would be appreciated. You may get charged sales tax while in the port of NY

never done it, but sounds about right. [/color

Have a great cruise. We've been on the BA twice and had a great time.

I've read so many negative comments about everything especially the nickel and diming that I feel like I'm going to have an awful time while I'm being ripped off! Lol so sad that people are so incredibly negative

Before sailaway the Thermal Suite is open for tours and is pretty crowded and loud. I'm not sure when they stop tours and it closes to those without passes, so I can't say how peaceful it is during sailaway. We've always been topside during sailaway and didn't head to the Thermal Suite until after dinner.

The Thermal Suite would be warm though, and it definately has a great view forward and to starboard. You can't see as much to the port side from there.

I'll be on the same sailing :) This will be 3rd time on BA for hubby and I, first time for our 3 kids. You're going to love it.

Was on the Gem in July. Took an Uber to Cocoa Beach from Port Canaveral. There were 6 in our party, so it was an Uber XL. It ran somewhere in the $30-$35 range. My niece took care of it so I don't recall the exact amount. It was very easy and I'd recommend it.

Had the UBP for the first time in July also. If the price of the drink is over $15 I believe you just pay the difference. I don't think any of us had anything over $15 so maybe others can comment better on this. While in port in the U.S. (so NY and Port Canaveral)you will be charged taxes on the drinks. I always had some singles on me to give an extra tip for really good service, etc..

Both previous cruises on BA were in March. I was outside on top deck, despite the cold/wind. Very exciting. When we were on Gem in July it was rainy so we watched from the Spinnaker Lounge. Nice, but not the same.

Can't give any input on Thermal Spa, sorry.

Hope you have a great time. 14 days and counting...:):):)

Thank you all! Lived in NJ my entire life and still appreciate that NY is the greatest city I'm the world and I still can't get enough of our skyline, won't miss it for a little cool air!

Did you grow up in East Brunswick? My DH grew up in EB.

We are in the next town over from you.

regarding the statue of liberty/bridge comments above. if you have issues standing make sure you find a seat as you leave NYC . you cannot just speed out of the port and to the ocean :)

it's more a leisurely stroll.

we did the statue side then up to haven for the bridge. also note there are deck 16 and 17 public places forward that not everyone knows about. good hiding place on sea days if you are interested.

Well in my opinion and i have been on Breakaway 2x. Throw out the really bad and really good reviews and focus on the medium. There are things I like about the ship and some not so much I like traveling out of NYC so I am going again in April. Nickel and diming...yes and no.....but you can control what you spend. Common space is smaller than on other ships I have been on. I like the atrium but in my opinion for some shows scary how they added seats and blocked isles. I'm not a fussy eater, liked most places. I have found bar service in casino horrible on first cruise much better on second. Restaurant service is longer than i prefer...but mostly the servers are doing best they can with tools they are given. Very few issues with disgruntled staff......but hey everyone has a bad day and while I am on vacation staff is not and I remember my bad days at work. I witnesses more bad behavior among passengers than staff. I do prefer smaller ships over mega ships...but my bad read above I am going again. My biggest beef with cruise lines is that sometimes I need to pick a cruise line/room for a specific reason and then they change rules midstream and not a force of nature.....well that ticks me off.
