cowboycruiser Posted February 6, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2016 Its been 6 years since we've been on a cruise. What are people mostly wearing in the main dining room, and formal night these days? Were doing a Caribbean cruise on the Liberty of the seas next month and don't want to pack the wrong stuff. Rare Scrapnana Posted February 6, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2016 I was on Liberty of the Seas in October (Canada/NE cruise) and saw everything from blue jeans (nice looking ones - not frayed or ripped) to tuxedos and formal dresses. "Formal" is more a suggestion than a requirement.
Rare Keith1010 Posted February 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2016 You will get a lot more input if you post this on the RCI Cruise Line Board. Keith
pseudoware Posted February 6, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2016 Khakis and a Polo shirt will work for formal night. No need to pack a dress up costume if you don't want to. Enjoy your trip. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
SuiteTraveler Posted February 6, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 6, 2016 cowboycruiser: In the MDR on Carnival, most nights men wear trousers with a collared shirt. On the "formal" nights, they wear a suit or at least a sport coat and tie with a very tiny number in tuxes.
Grandma Dazzles Posted February 6, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 6, 2016 Very controversial subject. Agree you will get better response on RC board. RC guidelines still say suit/tux for men and dress/evening type clothes for ladies. In actuality you will see everything from tux to jeans. Guidelines are a suggestion not a requirement. Personally I think most men wear a jacket/suit, a few tux, long-sleeved shirt and tie with no jacket. You will see some pants and collared shirt and a few jeans. Ladies are usually more dressy with short cocktail dresses or pants/skirts and sparkly tops, or long midi type sundresses. Dress is definitely less formal than it used to be and shorts not allowed (some people report wearing shorts but risk being asked change). However, my comments are based what I see on the majority - depends on how you feel. I also normally eat on second seating, which I think has less families and more of a dressier crowd. cowboycruiser Posted February 6, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted February 6, 2016 Thanks for the responses! It seemed that the formality had been trending towards more casual on cruises before our 6 year absence, but 6 years is a long time. I don't think disco lasted that long. :-) ill check the RCL boards as suggested for more specifics. Thanks again!
obnurse Posted February 6, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 6, 2016 Yes, you are right. As long as you look nice, you're fine. Nice capris, slacks, sundresses for ladies and nice pants and polo or dress shirts for guys is good every day of the week. You will see people on both ends of the grid. If you stay toward the middle you're good!
