Beach_Bum_64 Posted August 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2015 (edited) Our cruise ends this morning. I have seen many posts criticizing Viking and other cruise companies for the alterations and cancelations due to low waters on the Danube and Elb. We were extremely lucky. We left Budapest on Aug. 22nd. The crew on Viking was amazing, and the capitan even more so. We were told the morning before reaching Passau that we would have to get off in Linz and be bused to Regensburg (for a ship swap) with a stop in Passau for the normal tours. Four hours later we were told that this was unessary. Our capitan was amazing and we believe we were one of the few ships to make it through the areas of low water during this period. The situation is still bleak on the Danube. We have had some days of brief light rain, but more sunny periods are expected and higher temperatures We were very lucky. In addition, Viking has done everything within their power to deal with the low water which is beyond their control. Our cruise has been excellent; we were extremely lucky with the weather, and Viking was great. editor@cruisecritic Posted August 30, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2015 Glad to hear about your experience. As disappointing as this year's drought has been for passengers, it's also been a tough go for the river lines. They don't want to do ship swaps any more than we want 'em. 3red7s Posted August 30, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 30, 2015 We, too, just returned from our 1st Viking River Cruise....Budapest to Nuremburg. We also did a ship swap from the Tor to the Var, which was very organized and did not effect any of our cruise. We were both extremely pleased with the boat, the crew, excursions, food and our fellow travelers. Viking made it very easy....we have already booked for Paris to Normandy in 2016!!:)
