I would appreciate any information on how to get from San Jose to the port. I have read that cabs are expensive and I am curious if the cruise line provides any transportation. Somewhere I read that they do for $69. If so is that each way or round trip

2 years ago I did the Puerto Caldera to Colon cruise. I used a company to pick us up at the Airport and take us to our hotel in Arenal. They organized 2 days of tours for us also took us to the cruise ship. I had researched the tours we wanted to do. They were not cheap but they were not expensive. All the drivers were very prompt and very professional. The company was Costa Rica expeditions

This is why if you can't pick up the phone and call Windstar, you need a TA. Asked mine for options and got the info through her personal contacts at Windstar. Info is available. Just ask the line or TA.

Exactly! My TABis a real bulldog as well. Never takes no or I don't know for an answer, but here's the scoop:

If you buy the pre cruise overnight at the Marriott in San Jose, the cost for both ways is nada. Otherwise, you can book the shuttle service for $39 pp each way, but will need to taxi from Marriott to airport for the return flight.

I'll get my TA to book when I decide the pre cruise overnight and whether we'll linger a bit longer on the Guanacaste peninsula post cruise.

I would check the Marriott pre-cruise price on the internet. If it is considerably less than Windstar's price (it probably is), book direct. $39.00 each way is a bargain and the Marriott-airport taxi should not be pricey. At least, compare the prices and decide which is best for you. Embarkation is a fair distance from San Jose.

We have a late flight into SJO so my TA suggested just booking the cruise deal at the Marriott for one night and that includes the transfer to the port. A bit expensive, but done. He suggested a cab from the airport to the Marriott. Still working on a plan for post cruise after the trip through the canal.

The information hasn't changed though.

For anyone posting post-cruise plans, I would be interested to talk with anyone planning a Guanacaste 3-4 day stay (probably Playa Panama or north). We are debating a departure from Liberia instead of San Jose and would be interested in exchanging ideas.
