Christening Celebrations of Silver Muse

During the previous ten days in the Mediterranean, there had not been a cloud in the sky. On 19th April, the day was equally as lovely. However the calendar of events for the Christening was for the invited guests to assemble at 4.30 pm, prior to boarding the ship for a welcome reception at 5.00 pm in the Venetian Lounge for four luminaries from the travel industry in a question and answer session, by the Moderator, the CBS News Travel Editor.

We then all repaired to the quayside for the naming ceremony, with ominous grey clouds circling above. The orchestra struck up with a lovely violinist of Italian classics, who was to be followed by a solo from an ex member of Voices of Silversea. In the event, due to the weather, the latter was cancelled. Unfortunately the wind got stronger and the rain started to fall. We had already been given Silversea blankets to sustain us in the cold air, and just like magic, Silversea personnel brought umbrellas to the dwindling crowd, some of who had hightailed it back to the dry on Silver Muse.

Those of us who remained were determined to stick it out to see Constanza, the Muse's godmother, and Manfredi's teenage daughter, break the bottle of champagne over Silver Muse's bow. However the powers that be decided we would all adjourn to the Venetian lounge and the ceremony continued with the arrival of His Serene Highness Prince Albert of Monaco and the Archbishop of Monaco. Constanza with a jacket borrowed from her father, braved the elements to properly launch Manfredi's latest child, with a bottle of champagne over the bow of Silver Muse.

There followed a private cocktail reception held in the Tor Observation Lounge on Deck 11 for all senior dignitaries, with members from Fincanteri, Directors of SS and of course Prince Albert and the Archbishop to which Sir and Madame were invited.

Manfredi and his guests then hosted a table in the Atlantide restaurant on Deck 4. It was a lovely gesture to see that Duct Tape and her husband were seated on Manfredi's left.

After a few drinks in the Panorama Lounge, Sir and Madame very reluctantly wended their way to Deck 5 to disembark the ship, sorry that we were not doing a "back to back" - but then they should not be too greedy!

It goes without saying that the entire staff, particularly the hotel side, had worked extremely hard to accommodate all the visitors, provide dinner of epicurean excellence for around 590 in such an efficient and unobtrusive manner.

YES!! YES!! Super appreciate these wonderful details, comments and follow-ups. As always, excellent writing, insights and reviewing of the interesting events. Wonderful to read that Duct Tape was right there at the "heart" of this star event.

Thank you again for all your kind comments and hope you managed to get some indication of the fantastic atmosphere.

Les, yes we were captured in SS's live streaming - I was complimented for ~"my shawl" - which was identical to many others - all loaned to us from SS, the cashmere blankets!!

I have just posted some photos courtesy of MainsD, which I took of the Christening, on - "Our First Muse-ings from Monte Carlo roundtrip", should you wish to see them.

Kindest regards

Master Echo
