  1. Looking for May of 2019. I have looked at every cruise I can find no matter what the date. I am thinking of going out of Rome of Venice staying an extra 2 days in Venice. I would like about a 10-14 day of mostly just Italy. I want to hit the Amalfi coast for at least one day if not 2. I have looked at them out of Barcelona also. I mostly want to stay in Italy. I do not want to do a land trip. Does anyone know of any that I may be missing? Any ideas? Thanks

  2. A few years ago, we did the Tortuguera canals cruise...amazing wildlife..

We also noticed that the boat used by X tour company was sturdier, with some shade compared to some of the other pvt tours.

The boat part of the tour started in one location...and concluded elsewhere for the bus..buy souveniers at first stop..if it's the same tour.

Costa Rica is a beautiful place......would be a shame to miss out, but a tour of some sort is the best way to go to really see anything.

The actual port area and surroundings...rough!

Was any of this done with a train also? You tube has nothing

  3. Thanks everyone. I don't want to do a land based tour for the fact that I do not want to live out of a suitcase and my belief that it could make more more available for robbery etc. I like the idea of the same bed, same place to eat idea. I appreciate the idea though.

I would expect that if I start in Italy and end in Italy then I will stay a day or two at each end of the cruise. I would expect that to be Rome and Venice. Lots to see in either.

What I did notice about Viking is they seem to stay longer in the ports. One cruise I looked at they averaged 13 hours in each port. That is a long time. They do also offer an excursion in each port included in the price. Time will tell if this is the way to go.

    Thanks again everyone.

  4. Just a few questions if you folks have a minute. When I met my wife 11 years ago she told me her dream since childhood is to go to Italy and ride in a Gondola. I would like to make that happen...but...I have some questions.

Italy is having some issues same as all countries. I think it is still safe and wondering what you folks think? My wife is nervous.

We are thinking about going in May 2019. This gives up plenty of time to get ready and I already have other cruises booked that I do not want to miss. Is may a good time to go?

I would like to try Viking. My reasoning is smaller ships get in more ports. Your thoughts?

I would like something in the 12 day or so cruise. Pricing should be coming out this fall I would think?

What are the thoughts of starting in Barcelona? Yes I do know that is not Italy but a lot of culture here along with some nervousness of the area.

Barcelona to Venice? Venice to Barcelona? Leave Barcelona out?

Viking is very expensive. Is it worth it? I have also looked at other brands and have made no decision as nothing is released yet.

How safe are the ports other than pick pockets?

I think that if Italy reads about the unrest we have here in the states it would scare them also. Everything is so sensationalized I am trying not to buy into it but want to be cautious just the same.

Thanks for any help you folks can give me

  5. Back to room 12007. My agent who is pretty knowledgeable but not the holy grail said that room 12007 would be noisy from the gym being across from it. To me it looks like the entrance to the spa with not gym noise? She is also going by the diagram and reading it different than I am. She may have a diff diagram? For those who have stayed in 12007 is the hall quiet? No gym noise? Is the spa entrance straight across? Do the hallway get busy with the spa traffic? Thanks folks.

  6. Yesterday I booked an aft on the Magic. I have loved the aft cabins on RC and booked this one quickly. Last night I was watching youtube videos and the balcony is not quite as large as I thought. Friends of ours on the same ship have booked a spa balcony. Price is almost the same. They tell me the spa is the way to go. What are your thoughts and why?

  7. I studied up on binoculars two years ago before purchasing ours. Here is what I learned. 10 power max or the field of view will diminish and you will have a tough time finding what you are looking at. If you go over 10 power folks talked about them making them seasick. Not sure how but heard it many times. Waterproof is not fog proof. Fog proof is waterproof. It taking them from inside the cabin out on to the balcony this is a consideration. I purchased fog proof. You tend to get what you pay for but cannot go crazy at the same time. Mine are fairly large but are not a problem with packing or whatever.
