  1. The Blue Hole and White River Tubing are only 10 minutes apart (same river). I would suggest doing both of those fun tours, plus a stop for lunch at either Scotchie's or Miss T's Kitchen. We did that and it was a great day.

  2. My wife and I did the first ever "Welcome to Jamrock Reggae Cruise" in October of 2014 aboard the Pearl. It was nothing short of amazing. Five nights of peace, love, and reggae music.

They completely covered one of the pools on the Lido deck and transformed it into a stage. Shows started promptly at 8pm and ran until just past midnight. Lots of after hours DJ's and parties going on too. Weather was perfect for the first 4 nights. The last night was downpours, so they moved things in doors. Grand finale party went on until 6am, with the ship docking in Miami at 7am!

We have 2 cabins booked for this years cruise.

  3. I've been reading and reading this forum looking for ideas on what to do for a day in Nassau. It will be my wife, our two sons (mid 20's), and myself on Nassau from 7am until 5pm. Here are my thoughts for the day...

    * Cab to Ardasta Gardens for the 10:30 Flamingo show

    * Cab to Bahamian Cookin' for lunch

    * Walk to Pirate Museum

    * Walk to John Watling Distillery

    * Walk to Senor Frogs for a yard (or 2) of beer

    * Walk/Stagger back to the ship

Does this sound like a workable plan? Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated.

    >>> Is there any live music during the day? Steel band? Reggae?

  4. We just did this in February on a land based vacation. It was awesome!

The Blue Hole is about a 30 minute drive from the Ocho Rios pier. A private driver is probably the best way to get there for cruise passengers.

The guides are ready and waiting once you get to the parking area. The guides are fantastic. They will take great care of you and take many pictures too.

I think we spent about an hour there. There is no rush and you can stay as long as you want.

I would think you could combine it with Dunn's River Falls. An even better idea would be to combine it with the tubing on the White River. It is actually the same river as the Blue Hole and only 10 minutes away. So much fun!

We did both and everyone said it was our best day of the whole trip.

  5. Greetings all. I hope some of you HMC experts can help me a bit... I am starting to look at what to do on Half Moon Cay. It looks like there is quite a bit to do there - all within a short walk. I have seen some you tube videos with jet skis lined up along the beach, people using stand up paddle boards, sting ray encounters, water trampolines, snorkeling, etc. etc.

Are you able to use any and/or all of these things (some for a price - of course)? Or must you book each one individually as an excursion through the ship line?

    Any parasiling?

    Thanks a lot. :)

  6. The Blue Hole is quite the bargain at $10.00 (US) per person admission. Not sure about kids. My group had a 14 year old, and he was charged the full $10.00.

The guides are fantastic. I gave him a hefty 50% tip because my wife needs knee surgery and he worked very hard to make sure she was comfortable and safe. Give the guide what you think is fair. But keep in mind they work solely for the tips.

  7. That is correct. The parking lot is at the top. You walk down some primitive stairs to the water. From there, the guide will lead you over and around the rocks to get to the various jumping points. Once you are done, you walk the stairs back up to the parking area.

  8. The Green Grotto Caves are close and not too strenuous.

Bamboo rafting on the Martha Brae River is fun and close and easy.

The Green Wood and Rose Hall Great Houses are about a 30 minute drive each way. Both are old sugar plantations with lots of historical stuff. We prefer the green Wood Great House.

  9. The Blue Hole only costs $10 per person. We had 2 guides for the 7 of us. Like I said, the guides worked very hard because I am a big guy and my wife has knee issues. I gave them $17.50 each (Basically 50%). Many may think that is too much. But I consider how hard they worked, how cheap the attraction was, and how much fun they made it for us.

The cost of the White River Tubing was $25 per person. Again, we had 2 guides for the 7 of us. And again, I gave them $17.50 each (which worked out to 20% this time).

  10. Scotchie's is great for jerk chicken and pork.

We also liked Miss T's Kitchen very much. This is located in downtown Ocho Rios. She specializes in seafood. I had the run down shrimp which was to die for, Others had garlic shrimp, which they all enjoyed too.
