Fantastic review. Thanks! My wife and I will be on the Pearl this October. So I am loving this.
How would you compare the two main dining rooms (Indigo and Summer Place)?
-
Absolutely. It is a blast. I have only done the bob sled ride. But friends have also done the zip line. You could easily combine it with a stop at Dunn's River Falls and lunch at Scotchie's.
-
That would be in Montego Bay.
-
Awesome report and photos. Thanks for taking the time to share your cruise with us.
-
I'm glad you liked Jamaica. It's my favorite place!!! I don't like that part of the falls where you go under the road. Makes me claustrophobic. I usually avoid that part of the climb.
-
Not sure if this is offerd as an excursion... We have always enjoyed the humming bird sanctuary in the town of Rocklands. It is about a 20-30 minute drive (each way) from the Montego Bay pier. You sit with a small bottle of sugar water and wait for the humming birds or Doctor birds to come and perch right on your finger and sip the water. After that, they will take you on a short tour of their lovely grounds - pointing out many native trees and plants.
You would have plenty of time to stop in Montego Bay for a nice jerk chicken lunch and some shopping.
Another option could be one of the Great House tours right outside Montego Bay. Green Wood Great House or Rose Hall Great House have nice tours of the old sugar plantations.

Dunn's River Falls and Mystic Mountain (bob sled and/or zip line) make a great combination excursion. They are very close to each other and a lot of fun.
Yes, you certainly can bring your own camera to either place. Mystic Mountain does take photos of you as you are going up the tram and while coming down the bob sled ride. Both are available to purchase.
Mystic Mountain has a great view of the Ocho Rios port and city. Also souvenir shops, bar, restaurant, aviary, and pool up at the top.
I'd suggest you NOT climb the falls with your camera (unless it is waterproof). Odds are high that it will get wet. Let someone who isn't climbing the falls take the photos.
I hope I helped.

My whole family are Jamaica lovers too. We have always enjoyed going to Doctor's Cave Beach right on the hip strip. From there, you can walk the main road to Margaritaville for fun. Make some stops at the souvenir shops along the way. And yes, a meal at the Pork Pit would be highly recommended.

Why not wait until you get home to have them printed up? :)
I knew someone would ask that... We are going on the Welcome to Jamrock Reggae Cruise. I collect autographed photos of reggae superstars that I hang in my basement "man cave". We normally go see a star and my wife takes photos. Then, the next time we go see that same star, we bring along three 8x10 photos of the star. We give one to him/her and then get the other two autographed for us. This cruise may be my one and only chance to get both a photo and an autograph from some of the stars on the ship.
I wonder if I could get prints made during one of the stops in Jamaica???

I've just got to get one of those tubes of beer!!!
By the way - Did Max ever get his huge bottle of Grey Goose?
-
This may seem like a strange question... My wife and I will be on the NCL Pearl in October. I am wondering if you can get 8x10 prints of your own photos on board the ship?
I'm sure every ship has a photo lab and has that capability, but will they make prints for passengers?
Thanks all.

This is great. Thanks. Lookig forward to more. My wife and I will be on the Pearl in October for the reggae cruise.

Fantastic trip report. Thanks for sharing your wonderful journies.

Another vote for the "Capital of Casual" - Negril... Negril has a unique vibe to it that can't be beat. Simply gorgeous 7 mile long beach, with many great hotels, restaurants, and bars to stop at. The cliffs area has its own, very laid back vibe. Breathtaking sun sets, many fine restaurants/bars, and you can even jump off the cliffs (if you are brave).
Negril takes a while to get to and there is no cruise ship port there. I think that adds to the karma of it.

Great review. Loving it. Thanks.

Hello,
My wife and I arrive back in Miami from our cruise around 9am. Our flight back home isn't until almost 9pm (from MIA). So we have quite a bit of time to kill.
Thinking of getting a day room at a hotel on the beach or near the airport.
Looking for any suggestions... Thank you.

Your husband is fine for the bob sled ride.
I think there is a weight limit if 275 pounds for the zip line though.
-
We've done this combo twice in the past and had a blast. I hope you enjoy it too.
You really don't need any special clothing for either place. Unless you plan to swim in the pool at Mystic Mountain. Just shorts, top, and some comfortable shoes, sandals, or sneakers.
You will not get wet walking up the stairs and on the viewing platforms at Dunn's River Falls. Some of the wood may be a bit wet though.
Water shoes are a must if you climb the falls.

Thanks for that video. Very nice.

This is great. Please keep it coming. My wife and I will be on the Pearl for the Welcome to Jamrock Reggae Cruise in October.

I'd sugest taking a short cab ride cab to Doctor's Cave Beach and spending the day there. After you've had enough of the beach, you could hit the shops on the "hip strip" and walk your way to Margaritaville. The kids would like it there.
-
You can use the pool and restaurant with just a skyexplorer ticket. I can't help with your other questions. Sorry.
-
I have been to Mystic Mountain twice, but never as part of a cruise ship excursion...
The tram up to the top is fun (unless you don't like heights). You get great views of Ocho Rios. Up at the top they have a pool, restaurant/bar, and gift shops.
The bob sled ride is a blast. You control the speed. So you can zoom right down or go slow and relax. The ride then brings you right back to the top.
A few people in our group also did the zipline. They loved it too.
We also went to Dunn's River Falls (only a mile or so apart). So you can easily do both and still be in time.

Thanks for starting this thread. I have had the exact same questions. This is getting me quite excited.
I still wonder how accessible the "stars" will be.
