Any idea why JOS doesn't leave until 8:30?

Great, no-nonsense review! I love your "just the facts" style of writing. DW and I will be on the same cruise in early October and we can't wait! Thanks for sharing your experience.

So, with the access to the CL, would you say it negates the need for a beverage package if you are not much of a drinker? Or would, say a replenish package be worth it for the other areas of the ship? DW and are on our first cruise in an OS in October on Jewel for 7 days that is relatively port intensive with only two sea days.

The other thing to consider which I did not see mentioned above is that although the ship may depart at 8:30, you should be able to board as early as Noon. If you fly in that day, you may not board until late afternoon (with larger crowds) and will be stressed out from travel by the time you get on the ship. We are sailing on Jewel out of SJ in October and coming in the day before and plan to be at the pier by 11AM...it's like having an extra half day on the ship - why not take advantage of it?

Stacy, what date are you on Jewel? My wife and I are on the October 4th sailing with the same itinerary. Would love to hear your thoughts/tips if you are going earlier than us.

We were able to book OS 1058 for a trip in October for just two people through our TA...that's weird that they told you it had to be at least 3-4 people. Was that direct through RCI?
