  1. We are on the the 10/9 Allure sailing. We are supposed to stop Monday in Nassau followed by St. Thomas and St. Maarten. I am guessing we may skip Nassau and that they will substitute a Tuesday afternoon stop in San Juan. I am seeing only one other ship in SJU on Tuesday and it's one of the few ports that can handle an Oasis class ship. Anyone else have any thoughts on that guess?

  2. Thanks for sharing your video, I was reliving my trip to those islands. I was hoping to get a peek at what the jewel looked like on the inside though, do you have any video of the inside of the ship (other than your room?) People keep saying there's a view of the ocean all over the place, so I'm curious what that looks like from the inside, and I'm curious what the ships without promenades look like on the inside.

I don't have any of my own video that I shot around the ship, but I found this one on YouTube that should give you a pretty good feel for the ship...

    Thanks,

  3. Work commitments look to be forcing us from a mid April Celebrity sailing to a end of March Jewel sailing. When we figured everything out the prices come out to be close to one another and the itineraries are similar. I know the Jewel just had a dry dock. I think the size of the ship will be fine for us. We don't like big ships. We don't need all the bells and whistles. I'd like to know if anyone has a link to bar and restaurant menus. One of our main concerns is food. We absolutely love Celebrity's food. DH also wants more info on specialty restaurants. I purchased the ultimate drinks package since it was on sale. Can anyone give me some info on the Jewel? Much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Take a look our video from our recent Jewel cruise....hope this helps.

  4. Do you have to make a reservation every night? Or once you make it does it stay for the whole week at that time?

Glad you stated this, as Im used to Carnival where you go when you want and get a pager like at a restaurant at home.

We were able to make a reservation for a different time each night. You can also opt not to make one - there is a separate line as you enter the dining room for folks without a reservation, but that line tends to move much slower.

  5. Tony, the last cruise we did out of PR allowed us on the ship around 11...the boarding hall was a mess, and it's very unorganized compared to what you are used to! I suggest we get there early vs later, as I can't imagine the mayhem of boarding later. One guy got so upset he actually started screaming and walked away from the terminal!

Muster was about an hour before sailing. If you have evening dining, as we do, the dining room pushes out the normal 8:30 dining to later...

    CANT WAIT!!!

For our Jewel cruise in March (which departed on a Sunday and was the only ship at the Pan Am Pier that day), we planned to get to the port early and get on the ship as soon as they would allow. However, our plans changed when we found there was a large Triathlon going on right at our hotel that would have all nearby major streets closed for several hours.

Being that we were lucky enough to stay at a gorgeous resort (The Caribe Hilton) we decided, against every grain in our anxious minds, to stay at the resort until 1 PM and head to the pier once the streets opened back up.

At 1:00, we took a cab to the pier. Within 20 minutes, we dropped our bags with the porters, checked in and got our Seapass cards and walked right on to the ship with no lines. We grabbed a quick drink and snack at the cafe and by 1:45 we made our way to the room and our bags were already there!

Bottom line is that many different factors can contribute to you embarkation experience- we got lucky with a good one, but YMMV.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  6. We were on the Jewel in March. Only one muster at 8PM. For my time, you will need to make a reservation. They'll give you a range of 5:30 to 6:15 or 8:15 to 9:30. They won't let you make a 7:30 reservation. It's more like "sort of My time Dining." Anyone else's recent experience different? Oh, and the Main Dining Room is definitely open on the first night.

  7. OP asked for suggestions. I listed something that is a one off and famous locally for high quality food. And I was not the only one to do so. Others had great local suggestions too.

I didn't attack others "Not everyone like coal fired pizza, not every one likes giant ice cream sundaes".

"In My Opinion" it would be a wasted opportunity to get the same frozen mozz sticks they can get at a chain in their hometown when Fort Lauderdale is a foodie heaven. But if that's what lights your fire, have at it.

I was not rude to you. You are out of line.

    Agree.

  8. Not sure where you are leaving from...if you are flying, you may want to consider going to San Juan and going on the Adventure of the Seas. We have sailed out of San Juan and Florida and prefer San Juan. If you are going as far as the ABC islands, you'll get there a lot quicker from San Juan. Airfare may be more, but cruise fare is usually cheaper. Check it out to see if any of the itineraries work for you.

  9. What a great summary! Can anyone go to the Captain's reception??

Our experience has been that the Captain's Reception is on the first formal night which is typically day 2 of the cruise. The event was held in The Safari Club and was held at 7:30. The intent is to catch the folks with early dinner seating at the conclusion of their meal and for the late seating diners, it is just before they head to the MDR.
