  1. Made it to the Comfort Inn in Condado! They are running on generators but we have AC in the room! Airport is very crowded...the lights are on but AC is not. Also, the arrival/departure boards don’t work in the terminal, in case you are meeting someone.

Cell and WiFi Service is spotty. Cold bottled water was readily available at the gift shop near gate C8. Some shops and concessions in the airport are opened, but many closed. Taxis were readily available . We tipped our driver very well and he agreed to come back to the hotel to take us to the ship in the morning. Safe travels to everyone!

  2. Tried booking online, nothing. Tried calling, said they are not taking reservations, then call dropped... :( Maybe I was too late on the booking but will keep trying. Need one night next weekend.

Sheraton at the Convention Center may be another possibility. Best bet is to call the property directly. Also, might try some smaller boutique hotels. Do a search on Expedia or Travelocity, and if one comes up, call them. Good luck!

  4. Just do what you would normally do on any cruise. You will not be in the way. The devastation is being overhyped in the media. Yes, the damage was serious, but you won't see much of it by the time you come down in November. Right now people are handling it well here and they won't resent anything. We need YOU to come down. Please.

AoS - thanks for your local perspective. Although the last few weeks have been stressful for our upcoming cruise planning, I can't imagine what it's been for you locally.

But nonetheless, like the strong people of Puerto Rico, we are going to persevere. We will be traveling to San Juan next Friday for our cruise on 10/13. We have a hotel reservation (which we have confirmed 3 times) and plan to spend money supporting local establishments. I do have a few specific questions if you don't mind answering:

    - I have read reports that most of the Condado area now has full power restored. Can you confirm if that's true?

    - Also, I know that the distribution of gasoline and diesel are precious commodities right now, so can you confirm if any taxis are running?

    - And finally, I also read that the curfew in San Juan has been pushed back to 9PM - can you confirm if this is now the case?

God bless the people of Puerto Rico. You are strong and I know you will come back better than ever. I plan to do my part by supporting local businesses and not taking my money elsewhere. #PuertoRicoSeLevanta!

  5. How did your insurance help you, since emerging was cancelled (and I assume refunded) by the providers?

I see where the nyt says that. Seems unlikely.

"Although the airport in San Juan was accommodating 36 flights per hour — 18 arrivals and 18 departures — on Tuesday, commercial transport was limited because of the many military and relief flights"... I would assume that if that number is right there are a very low number of commercial flights in the stats.

Getting groups of tourists who have been stranded there, or people there who live on the mainland and need to get home, into the ship to get back to the mainland, is a different thing than people wanting to transit through there for their vacations.

    Ageeed.

Sorry, lost the proper quotation there.

Im not sure how it's helping you to keep freaking out when it'll either be fine to go OR it'll be cancelled. Travel plans when facing problems aren't enhanced by panic. Get plans in place and be ready to implement them. If it's not cancelled, then what happens next in your life? If it is, then what happens? You're either going to go or not go.

You are not currently in a disaster zone. You do not currently have pressing worries on you (like the people in PR do). I don't see how it serves anyone's mental health to freak out like some are.

It's like flying during winter weather. It'll snow or it won't. There will be a massive ice storm in Dallas and your husband will spend 3 hours on the 5 mile drive to the airport and maybe make it to his flight or he won't. The flight will be cancelled or it won't. Make the plans, put them in place, wait and see what comes next. Panicking and yelling at and about travel providers (even on cc, heck, especially on cc) doesn't help anything.

    Exactly.

  6. I also suspect FEMA and other disaster relief organizations are booking whole hotels and/or large blocks of rooms for multiple weeks ahead through the fall/winter. Some of these may get reopened to new bookings as the recovery effort proceeds, but I'd also expect a few hotels will get taken over completely by FEMA for the next 4-6 months.

I thought I read that FEMA and aid workers have or will have presence of up to 10,000 folks on the island, so this makes sense.

  7. Pan American Pier?

I would assume so...saw a post on FB from Royal's Chief Meteorologist about an hour ago with this photo and the caption "#AdventureoftheSeas about to arrive in #SanJuanwith humanitarian aid, relief supplies for #PuertoRicoRoyal Caribbean International."

  8. Thanks for the info! We are supposed to fly to SJU on 10/12 and have a room booked at Da House. IF we are still able to fly there and go on our cruise, I imagine we will have to look for alternative reservations for our hotel.

I called the Comfort Inn Condado directly tonight. They answered the phone and they are up and running on a generator. They think we should be OK for our reservation on 10/13. You might want to grab a backup reservation there. I think they are still showing some rooms available. We are on Adventure 10/14 as well. Good luck!
