  1. I called and they did confirm #2 and #3, but I have heard both yes and no on the internet from Royal, so was trying to confirm for my friends which it really was.

When we have been escorted on it was by the concierge. We were in email contact the week before to coordinate our time of arrival. I would expect it to be the same (concierge) on the Adventure. I will be interested to hear if this is different once the Adventure gets to Cape Liberty but I don't expect it to be different. Never had complimentary internet in a suite that's not Oasis or Quantum class.

  2. We just came back from the Oasis of the Seas and had a wonderful cruise. I had booked two cabins - and was excited to think about the points I would get to help me move up to the next level. That excitement ended when I found out that even though as a family and we paid for both cabins - I only got credit for one of the cabins on my C and A number because my husband has a different number and he got credit for the other cabin. I just booked another cruise for my whole family, this time with three cabins and now find out the credit will be split between three different people even though I booked them and am paying for all three as a family. This is so disappointing to me as this will take forever to rise up through the C and A levels. Even with hotel points you can book rooms under that same rewards number and get the points for all rooms not just one. So unfair.

My DD is 15. I am quite sure she has not paid for her cruises, and I don't have any points for my expense. She will turn 18 and be near Pinnacle, Elite with Celebrity, Black card with MSC and wherever else she ends up with the other lines she has sailed. I don't begrudge her one point or her status on any of the cruise lines. At least she'll be set up with her benefits with whichever line she chooses to sail.

At least that way when she is no longer a minor and travels with us we don't have to worry about her joining us in Diamond lounge. Or would you complain if you got all the points that your family can't join you in the Diamond lounge despite having cruised as much as you because they don't have the points:confused:

  3. It looks like you are on Adventure next year. Adventure is new to Cape Liberty next year, so no one yet knows how her disembarkations will be run. She is a voyager class ship with limited space on deck 4 to warehouse folks waiting to self disembark. She's also not scheduled to arrive until 7 am.

On a Friday morning I would not consider a 9:30 am flight. Rush hour traffic is unpredictable. I'd allow 30-60 minutes to get to the airport arriving at least 1 1/2 hours ahead of flight time.

Thanks, I will probably go for the noon flight then. We hate hanging around for flights but don't want to risk missing it either!

  4. We are doing a Friday to Friday cruise, flying into Newark. On a Friday morning can anyone advise how long to get from the port to the airport by taxi. Also on a Friday morning what are the normal times to get through security at the airport? Was looking at a 9:30 flight as we will do walk off and are in a suite so hoping we get priority walk off departure.

  5. Really would love to try MSC next year, suite perks look better than RCCL, did a old MSC ship 10 or so years ago and loved the food

We booked Royal Yacht Club suite for less than we were paying on Liberty. The suite perks and getting status match to Black Card status made it a no brainer. The only RC ships that have real benefits for suites are Oasis and Quantum Class. The other class ships leave little to be desired when it comes to suite perks. We are also looking forward to trying their suite exclusive area on their private island.

  6. I am a vote for Harmony. Not been on Harmony, but have done Allure and Liberty. Liberty was the only cruise we have taken where we couldn't wait to get off the ship. It wasn't an awful cruise but lots of little things that made it less enjoyable. We like sailing out of Galveston as we can drive, but we cancelled all our future Liberty sailings and switched for other trips.

  7. Be advised there is an I.T. problem which Royal Caribbean are aware of but there is no timescale to fix it. The issue prevents U.K. clients from booking certain cruises. Only found out about it on our last cruise. Navigator of the seas 14th June. Had been trying to book this cruise some months previous. Went on website at least once per day. Then tried to book with Next Cruises literally just after we boarded. Tried to book Grand Suite on Explorer of the Seas "Transpacific" 5th October 2018. All sold out. Had to purchase Owners Suite costing £2500 more. Complained to Miami, that felt discriminated against due to US and UK market differences. Received a reply which stated in paragraph 2, they are aware of this problem but cannot say when it will be fixed. even spoke to Next Cruise manager, who said they could put a simple message on the webpage. By knowing they have the problem and doing nothing to make U.K clients aware they are discriminating. A simple message on web page advising of this issue, clients could then contact the call centre, who have access to ALL CRUISES. Even my travel agent was not aware of this issue, she is now contacting all other agencies to make aware. (Have forwarded her the email from Royal Caribbean confirming this). Miami office rung me last week, all they were prepared to offer was an extra $200 onboard credit or a "Specialist Meal with a bottle of wine.

They could have met halfway the price difference. Have been "Loyal to Royal" for many years, do not feel loyal now.

Have to take this cruise as it is the only departure date that fits in with our itinerary to be in Australia for the Invictus Games 2018. Otherwise I would willingly lose the deposit and take my custom elsewhere.

    Thanks for nothing Royal Caribbean.

If you didn't want to pay for an OS you didn't have to. I am sure there were other cabins available. No one said you had to book it. That was your choice. If you didn't like it you should gave tried to resolve before booking.

  8. Got an upsell from crown loft to grand loft but rci wanted about $2500. Would be sky class to star class so grats included. This would being the upgrade down to $2100 but we declined as the perks did not make it worthwhile for us. Cruise is 16 weeks out and all cls are gone but the grand lost and owners loft is still available. Hope they call back with a better offer as it gets closer to sail date.

You probably have more chance of an upsell on Oasis class ships due to the extra cabin types. In this case the OP isn't sailing Oasis class so very few higher cabin categories.

Good luck with your upsell. I'd have jumped at that.

  9. Booked in March. Question is can we transfer the deposit to a different booking, or do they just expect to keep the $1000?

This much we expected. Based on the charge for the actual reservation it was like $3800/ea for P1 and P2 and $700/ea for P3 and P4. I'd absolutely most definitely expect to still pay the $3800/ea., that sailing and others near it are showing prices of $3800/ea for a 2p booking in a RS on That Fish Place. RC site's not cooperating with Safari when it comes to a dummy booking, but never before have I had to have 4 people to dummy-book even an RS.

The TA admits she had trouble getting a ruling and doesn't think she was even then dealing with the sharpest corkscrew behind the bar, so she'll continue to pursue; but I'm not the least bit thrilled (who would be except RC) at having to pay a 4p rate for that suite because at one time there were 4p booked there.

Logically we should get the $700 AND taxes AND port fees for P3 and P4 knocked off if they're knocked off the trip.

Correct you should get back the third/ fourth person costs plus taxes. They should be able to give you an invoice that shows the costs for each guest

  11. Hi all,

Im Just hoping to get some other members opinions regarding RCCL and what other lines they have sailed with.

We have only sailed with RCCL and had many amazing cruises and experiences, however recently we have noticed that the price they are asking is increasing on a regular basis and more recently the last 2 cruises this year the quality of the service has not warranted the price. (We don't mind paying extra for the cruises but it doesn't seem justified recently) Compared to other lines the prices have increased but nothing on the cruise seems to warrant this. If you compare the potential sailings to P&O you seem to get a longer cruise and more destinations for either less or the same money but a better style of cabin.

The last few cruises the quality of service seems to have dropped especially in the formal dining room where the staff seemed very disinterested in all the customers and just rushing around as if they were understaffed. Two of our waiters pretty much ignored us most of the evening. Again in the windjammer our table was only cleared at the very end when a waitress just asked 'you done'!!!

Another issue we have found is the amount and type of maintenance that is being undertaken whilst sailings are happening. Once again i know this needs to be done to keep the ship 'ship shape' however i don't feel whilst on a sea day i should have to deal with decks being sanded, welding occurring and been asked to move so they can paint an area. Overall we feel the company has put financial gain over customer satisfaction.

    SO......

The big question as we are starting to look at future cruises mainly next year, is what other lines would RCCL 'supporters' recommend or suggest we try. we like the style of RCCL with its more relaxed atmosphere to a certain extent. We are thinking P&O or NCL compared to RCCL. The only reason we have said NCL as a couple we were talking to on our last cruise mentioned the exact same issues as us and said they had had a great cruise with NCL. We are looking at a Caribbean cruise and then another one later in the year.

I know this seems like i have come here to bash RCCL but i haven't we have had many amazing cruises with them and have another one booked in august which we have said will go a long way in deciding what we do.

But i would love some input into other lines and what everyone else has thought of their recent experiences with RCCL.

    Thanks

    I like Celebrity.

It's been a while since I sailed P&O but my parents just did their third P&O cruise since last year (normally sail RC). They like the food but find the service frustrating in areas especially GS. That said they know they are getting a good deal, and can sail round trip to Caribbean without flying.

I would try MSC newer ships. We recently booked the Seaside and are quite excited. Also trying Princess next year. Finally!

HAL out of Harwich is normally smaller ships, but had a better than expected experience.

  12. We sail on Allure on Sunday in a Grand Suite. I just got a call from RC. It was a 1-866 number, which I never typically answer, especially when I am at work and running to a meeting, but something/someone told me to answer it. Thank goodness I did! They offered me the opportunity to upgrade from a grand suite to a grand loft suite. At first I said no, not realizing it would put us in Star Class (we are pretty infrequent cruisers so am not well versed on what fits where). But then he told me it was Star Class and I quickly did the math. There are 4 of us sailing, and by the time I put in what we would pay for the beverage packages (already bought), the gratuities that Star Class includes as a perk, and a specialty restaurant, the cost to upgrade was only about $400 for all 4 of us in total! So for Star Class, that was a STEAL! So excited! I was going to try to keep it a surprise for my family until they opened up the door to the room, but I think the concierge might meet you at the pier, so that would blow the surprise.

I did ask him if I hadn't picked up the phone would he have left a message, and he said no. He said they continue to run down the list if someone doesn't answer, and if he left messages the room might be gone by the time the person called back, which would have resulted in a bad customer experience. Better to never know!

Can't believe it! We have sailed in a grand suite once before and loved it (2 years ago), so I was very happy with where we were, especially with the new suite perks, but am so excited for this room and to try out Star Class, which we will probably never do again!!

    ljcofy

Correct me if I am wrong, but the way I am reading this is that it was not $400 to upgrade but $400 plus the cost of 4 X gratuities for the week plus the cost of 4 X drink packages. ( I assume those are of the alcoholic variety;)) . So if you were not having the drink packages etc the actual cost to upgrade in monetary value was far more than the $400. Am I interpreting that correctly?

I am not saying if that is the case that it's not a bad deal for you as you were buying anyway, but for someone not traveling with 4 in a cabin or that would not need to buy 4 drinks packages, it unfortunately doesn't make it anywhere near as good a deal.

  13. MoBay, Ocho Rios.

We have always found the actual port area of Falmouth fine. However Ocho Rios is where we have had the most issues. We went to a bar and ordered two drinks and a portion of fries. Paid our bill. Left and went shopping then one of the bar staff was following passengers into local stores accusing people of not paying their tabs and demanding more money.

That said we prefer some of the excursion options from Ocho Rios than Falmouth. If we were stay in port though I would be less inclined to get off in Ocho Rios and if we do then we will be avoiding the local bars/ restaurants.
