  1. So you are telling me all the parents that haven't bothered to C&A there kids since the kids auto get the points off parents, and the parents don't get those points for that 2nd cabin in order to fit the family! What a rip off!

No the kids get their own points accumulated for what they sail, they don't get the same points as their parents. They just share their parents status until they turn 18. They then keep the status but can't move up to the next level until they reach the points needed in their own right.

The parents call C&A and set up numbers for the children. If the children have not been registered C&A can pull the previous sailings and credit to them.

Your statement basically says you expect double points for booking two cabins and then you expect the kids to automatically get those double points as well. The system doesn't work like that!!

I'd like to see RCI really look at other Suite amenities and revamp theirs for the better. Before our cruise preferably. ;)

After Celebrity revamped their program, higher level suites now get unlimited free internet, complimentary drinks packages and unlimited speciality dining. Which is even better again:D

  3. We carried our smaller rolling luggage ( 22" I think) onto a ship just once. I too thought it would be nice to have everything with us to unpack as soon as we got to the cabin. We found no real advantage, especially as we boarded well before the cabins were ready. It was a pain to drag or roll it around the ship. If my scheduling had me boarding after 1 pm ( or so) I might consider it again, otherwise no. Not sure of the carry on limit size, but I know it has to fit through the security scanner.

That said, we ALWAYS try to carry off if we are disembarking from a shorter cruise and just have the one small rolling bag.

Seems many other have this philosophy as the walk off lines can be very long.

    M

Agree a lot do walk off these days. When we did Southampton it was quite quick as there are no long immigration queues:) it made it a lot quicker getting off for us.

  4. I agree it is a personal preference for each individual. I personally have never seen a family that has not had a rolling carry on case getting onboard. That is just my observation.:)

I got the impression, the op is only on a short cruise ie a few days. As such I inferred they did not have much luggage and wanted to know if they could carry on. The answer to that is yes if it is a carry on size case.

  5. I'm not sure about that port specifically, but here is how it's worked on all the RCI cruises I've been on:

For embarkation, I don't see any advantage to carrying your luggage onto the ship. Instead, I see a few possible disadvantages. You have to go through airport style security when boarding. Sending lots of bags through the x-ray machine may cause issues - RCI may not allow it. I've never seen anyone actually try it. Then, you'll be stuck with your bags until staterooms are ready, which can be hours after embarking depending on when you board and other factors. Personally, I'd keep a carry-on and let RCI have the rest.

For disembarkation, you have two choices: Put your bags out the night before and let RCI take them off the ship. Or, keep your bags in your stateroom and carry them off yourself when you disembark.

Keep in mind, I've only sailed from US ports.

Advantage is we can get on, get to cabin and be completely unpacked before muster. We have everything we need, changes of clothes, toiletries etc on hand. One carry on case each plus a rucksack, carry bag or similar. Yes RC do allow. We do it every time we sail.only time we ever take a check in case is if we need to check in case for a flight, and even then if we can use carry on size we will and just check in at port with it.

  6. You can only carry on carry on cases. If the case is a size that if you were flying it would need to be checked in, then it would need to have a luggage tag and checked in at the port and sent to the cabin. Short cruises should be easy enough to get what you need in rolling carry on cases.

As for departure, self assist you can carry all cases regardless of size and quantity. You just need to be able to do by yourself.

  7. I am asking this question on behalf of a friend's boyfriend . Shes a regular RC cruiser and goes each summer and she is taking her new boyfriend with her. He wants to sneak alcohol on board and has been researching means to do so (first cruise for him). She is not a drinker and is petrified he will be thrown off the ship and has given him all the official stuff from their policy and he has given her examples of people getting through hes read about it. She asked me and I drew a blank and said I would ask about. I sail with a line that seems more relaxed about it all and have never heard of anyone been thrown off Carnival so could not help.

So my question is, has anyone ever got thrown off a RC ship for Booze smuggling?

They will be on a Summer Baltic cruise.

    Thanks :)

Even though you posted this three times, I still read the post where she says it is her boyfriend. Huh?

First sentence clearly states FRIENDS BF:)

  8. I'm not debating the automatic gratuities, but I am wondering what the advantage is of prepaying the gratuities rather than just having them charged to your onboard account and paying them with your credit card when you settle your account?

None other than you have paid it off in advance of your cruise so you go on the cruise ship with a zero balance as opposed to owing gratuities. You also need to prepay gratuities if you want MTD.

  9. I would not believe that spiel. Of course, the cost of providing a mixed drink is certainly more than just the cost of the alcohol contained in it. There is the cost of building bars and and storage for the bar supplies into the design of the ship; the glass-ware (including occasional breakage and cleaning), the mixers, juices, garnishes, etc. And, of course, all bars, whether on land or at sea, include a profit margin.

But, no, they are not likely to get vodka or any other spirits at 35¢/bottle. Wholesale deals are not quite that good. :)

    Agree.

Also it is frequently talked about how cabin stewards etc rely on tips, and RC make up their tips to a certain level if they make less gratuities than said minimum.

Bar stewards also need to be paid. I doubt that their salary is made up from tips alone.

RC also has the expense of providing them board, food, medical treatment etc. it all has an effect on cost, and hence will have an effect on cost to customer.

  10. May I ask if You had to carry your food on trays or plates from one location to another looking for a place to sit what did you do with your carry on luggage?

There will be 4 of us seniors with carry on pieces and it would help if we had a plan.

    Thanks again

    Find a table.

Someone stay with the luggage, the rest go and get food, bring back and then the luggage watcher goes to get food. Just like you would in the WJ.

    No trays.

  11. When I sailed on the Navigator, there was a Suite Check-In line once you got inside the terminal.

Just speaking from experience, I do think there were probably delays and a lot of frustration at check-in. This cruise boarded on Easter Sunday, when the disembarkation of the previous cruise would have been very slow due to a shortage of customs/immigration agents and a huge number of non-U.S. citizens to process. I wonder if they simply started running out of space in the terminal before the ship was cleared from the last cruise.

Agree, peak time can be horrific, we do it all the time and are used to it:D

When we did NOS last summer it was the first time we had experienced people being segregated prior to entering the terminal. There was a long snake line waiting to get in. We were suite and D+ and were asked to wait in line until they opened the terminal. Once the terminal opened they then called Pinnacles, D+ and suites to come to the front of the line. We were okay as we were on a bend so we could get out to the side. It was a bit more difficult for those in the thick of it as it was more difficult for them to get past all the people and carry on cases. It would have been easier for them to have had a seperate line for priority outside as there weren't many there that early. Then as other priority guests turned up they could have kept them flowing in.

We noticed that once in the terminal people were entering in clusters so we assumed they were calling one group at a time. Once inside it flowed quite well. Galveston has always been slow getting off, there's nothing new there, and we have always had to wait longer at galveston for security screening to get started to check in as well. It must be a Galveston thing;) hopefully it will improve when the refurb is complete:D

  12. I agree when we were on the NOS the food at times could have been slightly warmer, but we found it perfectly adequate. The creme brûlée has been hit and miss across the fleet. Majesty was the best I have had, Adventure the worst and navigator in between.

That being said, I have never not seen a suite priority check in line. There certainly was one when we sailed Navigator. Maybe the others on this cruise could give us more info on that.

  13. Pretty sure you cancel without penalty 24 hrs in advance. If you are concerned

And don't mind tbe hassle, you could make a reserv using Credit card, cancel, and then rebook same time using OBC.

I have same dilemma and am just going to wait.

If you cancel onboard it just adds to oBC, it doesn't go back on cc unless you cancel prior to sailing.

  14. We last cruised the Navigator of the Seas in February/March of this year. We had an OS, and I can tell what has changed in the suite category from the past, but only back to 2003, when we first sailed with Royal Caribbean, on the Legend of the Seas.

By tomorrow, at the latest should tell a story. Either the OP will come back and explain the situation, or..........where is.......the popcorn.:):D

    Rick

What differences did you notice? Would you mind sharing your thoughts. I am interested as have a suite coming up.

    Thanks

  15. Op,

When you register your child at AO, there is a form to fill out for medical and dietary issues. Only food they provide is normally a complimentary ice cream party and lunch/dinner nights with AO which are at a cost if I remember correctly. I don't recall DD ever being given snacks inside the club itself, not at WJ at times shown on activity compass.

We have done MTD before and requested same wait staff with no issue.

    Enjoy your cruise.:)

  16. Not a flame, but I just don't understand why someone would want to go to a restaurant if they don't want to eat the food on the restaurant's menu.

    I agree completely Bob.

Op, not flaming, but would it not be worth considering the 6 that want to go to 150 do so on a different evening, and that evening find a restaurant that fits everyone's tastes instead. That way you could celebrate twice!

  17. Just had a thought. If the cabin you are looking at sleeps 3/4 person it may be blocked to those with only two in cabin.they won't sell multiple occupancy cabins out to only two guests until a certain capacity is filled.

Here are the e1's I can see. Some connecting, some not connecting. Hope this helps.
